She would have died before Voyager got home due to her short lifespan.

Besides, Tanis managed to live into his mid-teens and was still youngful, so I'm sure they could have found a way for Kes to do it as well.
Kes could have been an awesome character if they'd given her a bit of an edge. "Warlord" more than shows Lien would've been up to it.
Unfortunately, the Kes we got was amazingly bland. Meek, even.
...and that scream!
Seven of Nine had an edge. Yeah, she wore the tight suit and had an insane rack, but her combination of a dominant personality and being severely fucked up made for a super character.

youthful?
Or they would have magicked up a way for her to live longer, a la "Before and After."
Kes' most horrible screaming was in "Cold Fire". The most awful, fingernails-on-chalkboard sound imaginable.
Yeah, IMHO, they could have done a Kes episode once a season, at least. Done a Daniel Jackson with her character or something. I am easy to please, and there are few Voyager episodes I don't like, and Fury is one of them. That was not the best way to bring Kes back. Sort of ruined her character: even if she was senile, going back in time with the intent of destroying voyager made no sense. If they were going to do a time travel thing with Kes, it should have been during the year of hell and\or shattered, and\or endgame, even if it were just a cameo. And yes, the show would have been better with Kes. The show lost a lot when she was "deleted".
I disagree.Jennifer Lien was fired, not because "the writers couldn't write for the character" (now that's a pathetic excuse from those in charge considering some great Kes episodes in season 3)
