Jennifer Lien In Legal Trouble Again

After that, uh, entertaining interlude, let's get back to the subject at hand. THIS IS THE DAY (sorry but I couldn't help projecting back to OCT. 16, 1997 for a moment). The proceedings for the April felonies and the flashing incident are scheduled for today per the court calendar as of late last week. It seems unlikely that the latter would occur so soon after the event and it was listed for Dec. 5 in said calendar just a few weeks ago. Perhaps there is just a preliminary action that is being dovetailed with the trial.

It's good that at least a few of the recent posts referenced the earlier, actual confrontation with the police, automobile style. I understand that any "sexual" charge is going to generate a good bit of attention. Still, as I mentioned earlier, it still astounds me that neither of the earlier cases seemed to be cited on the internet or anywhere else (save the local paper) until months after the fact, to the best of my knowledge.

I can only hope that the trial is conducted with as much fairness, probity, and dispassion as possible and that Ms. Lien's public defender renders effective representation. Sorrowfully, I find it most likely that the felonies did occur as described , given how her psychiatric illness (my opinion), isolation, and probable lack of effective care, has devolved her existence over a number of years. The events enumerated by these charges, aside from the possibility that Ms. Lien could have easily been riddled by bullets, are materially more damning than being found guilty of committing the deleterious crime against minor children. Additionally, I think that the the opportunity for any mitigating circumstances that might be presented to lessen the sentence on the felonies is dubious due to Ms. Lien having already been given another chance by whatever form of advantageous adjudication was reached in the domestic violence case involving her mother.
Not to say that being labelled a sex offender isn't serious, but the impact of that eventuality pales in comparison to the consequences of an adverse verdict on the felonies. I'm very much afraid that Ms. Lien will be facing a number of years in prison without even the leavening help of effective treatment being available, according to the posters who claim familiarity with the area.

Some posters have wondered how they might be of assistance in this perilous time for Jennifer. I believe that the best recommendation one can make now is to simply write to her to extend the message of the personal meaningfulness found in witnessing her rare and special talents and that further, that there are many many people who care deeply about her welfare.
How she might receive such communications is problematic. I have long believed that Jennifer most likely doesn't want to be reminded of her past vocation to the greatest extent possible. I'm not sure that she has felt anything positive about this part of her life, her comments about acting at the time notwithstanding. This would certainly help explain her reticence in attending conventions and other events, aside from knowing that to do so meant she had to find a way to cope with her apparent social anxiety disorder. Also, why as far as I'm aware, she has never established any on-line presence.

All of that is to say, that Jennifer might take these sentiments as delusional characterizations of herself, that if they ever had any substance, that time has long since passed. I can only hope that if that some critical mass of such missives reaches her, expressed in a genuine and heartfelt manner, she might come to accept their truth to some extent, even in her disordered thinking, and find that they provide some solace and positivity as she faces a very difficult future.

The address to post, mentioned earlier in the thread, is Roane County Jail 230 North Third Street Kingston, TN 37763 marked to her attention.

I really don't care who she is or what she did for a career. I just see a person a lot like me who is drowning. She is living my worst nightmare. I could easily be in a similar situation. I'd do just about anything to get her into a better situation. This is pretty unacceptable to treat a hurting human being like this.

I am way ahead of you and wrote to her at the address above about a week ago. I kept it brief and kind and didn't mention anything of her situation or her career with the expressed intent of not freaking her out. I have terrible social anxiety myself and the thought of calling someone on the phone or anything just turns me blue) but I gave her my number and she'll have my address on the envelope. I don't expect anything. It's hard to trust and even I couldn't imagine trusting someone through the mail like that.

Someone needs to step up for this little soul and I am at a complete loss.

No action taken on any of the charges yesterday. All of them, including the indecent exposure, have been rescheduled to November 2. I guess this could indicate a number of things. A vain hope but perhaps there might be a chance that she can again avoid the slammer, maybe pending further psychiatric evaluations.

Welcome to the board and a nice initiative to write to Jennifer.

ANYHOO, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Here is someone on the brink of life going downhill real fast. A simple backyard argument turning into jail time; and even then, all the more likelihood of future run-ins with police getting possibly more twitchy with someone known to have threatened them and banged up their stuff. It feels like a person digging their heels into a corner.

Do police always make arrests for exposure? Because I was just reading comments in an article about a guy who thwarted someone stealing a package off his porch, and even with ID and clear video footage, no arrests have been made as of yet. The commenters say they've had cars stolen with fingerprint evidence left behind that the police didn't follow up on. I can understand you have to prioritize, and as the police told one church recently (who expelled several lifetime member seniors for their dissatisfaction with the new preacher), "Handle it yourselves. Call us if somebody pulls a knife." In the Lien vs Neighbor case, some police response may have been warranted simply due to the fact that there is a neighborhood row with a Red Flag /Cop Car Rammer, so potential for violence may be a factor.

But would exposure in a heated argument - not premeditated - alone usually warrant an arrest - not legally-speaking, but in the gritty reality of police priorities? And if so, sure - but if not, what other factors would be involved here? Implication of potential threat against neighbors? Celebrity schedenfreude? Suspicion of drug use? Police Department PR? Celeb PR (in TN?)? Closer psychological scrutiny of a neighborhood "Hollywood weirdo" going off the rails?

Jus' asking.

Care to weigh in, Ass Master?

1. Someone reports you, or you do something stupid in front of a police officer.

2. The police take you to holding until a judge is free to see you. This can take days. In lighter crimes, they can give you a date to report to the courts to see the judge and you do not have to wait in jail till your court date that could be months away depending on the back log.

3. Arraignment. Here you plead guilty or not guilty, and the judge sets bail that you can or cannot pay, puts you out on your own recognisance, or does not set bail and leaves you to stew in jail if you are a danger to the public or a flight risk.

(Jennifer's bail is $2,500. No one wants to pay it, or no one can pay it. That is all that stands between Jennifer and her freedom. I'm not sure why a kickstarter was not put into play to get her out.)

3. Trial. This was supposed to happen a couple days ago, but it got pushed forward.

4. Sentencing or freedom.

5. Appeals or more freedom.

Mitigating circumstance.

Jennifer would have been on parole or some type of restricted liberty from last year when she charged a police car. She has used up her good will, and the police do not have to try to treat her like a person.

You cannot start a Kickstarter for her because that would require making a project of some sort. GofundMe won't let you raise money for someone's bail. Believe me I have been searching for way to help her. I don't personally have 2500 dollars.

And yes, that statement is frightening. And all for what amounts to having an adult tantrum that she was probably pushed into.

The reason i think people aren't raising money for her is because her innocence is not clear in all of this.

Residuals, if any, from Star Trek are probably just a token payment. Especially to someone sitting in the cooler for want of $2500.

I'm going to say something here some may disagree with: IT'S NOT THE FANS' RESPONSIBILITY to bail her out. In fact, that could do more harm than good, we don't know. Her own family has not come forward to ask for donations, have they? They apparently consider this situation acceptable - and frankly, so must Lien, if she is not availing herself of a bail bond herself.

Let the experts sort it out. Maybe she needs some alone time. Look at her - she has chopped her hair, she has left her family, she has moved to BF Egypt Tennessee on a street on the edge of poverty. (Go ahead, search images of her street: Sewanee St Harriman Tennessee. According to public records her 100 year old house is worth about $63,000). She is possibly experiencing culture shock with neighbors who are willing to ignore a crying child for extended periods - where complaining about someone not taking responsibility is the worse crime, apparently. By now she must realize she isn't in La La Land any more.

Perhaps she just escalates arguments like some people do. Perhaps she chopped off her hair for meth money. We don't know. She may be fresh out of a divorce and handling it badly. She may have brought it upon herself. At this point, the best thing people can do is let the public servants do their jobs. Wish her well, but also realize she is not the character she played, and give her a break from that, she obviously wants one or she'd be an autograph hound like the rest of them, (bless 'em).

I will say this much: if I were a betting man, I would bet the neighbor was overreacting and blowing something completely out of context. As Guy mentioned a while back, there were no drug charges. Lien had prior troubles and is probably on some kind of police watch list.

I get the feeling it's a tempest in a teacup between someone down on her luck who doesn't realize she's not dealing with Californica thug culture but people who take threats seriously. But that Lien may be having money problems which lead to all sorts of other problems, not the least of which, is good old fashioned mountain paranoia. Of course, doesn't mean she's innocent.

People getting arrested by the police don't threaten their lives or ram their cruisers unless something else is going on. I will say that some middle aged divorced mothers who lose control of their family nest - can react badly. I mean, seriously badly.

I would counsel time and patience here. You may not want to support wrong actions with blind fandom. The first step in restoring faith in a person is when that person takes responsibility for their actions.

Not a fan. Just happened to read her story and was heart broke by it. And yes, i realize just getting her out isn't a good idea. She needs care, just not by people whose job it is to treat hurting human beings like trash. I'm so glad things were different back in the day. If someone got put in jail every time they had a melt down, half our neighborhood would have been in there, myself included. But no, we took care of each other. Talked to the person, sat with them, or left them alone to calm down. Had a boyfriend once that took the the roof, and then the poor suicidal drunk lady next door. But we didn't exacerbate their situation with more abuse. If you weren't trying to stab people you were ok.

In some parallel universe, Jeri Ryan is flashing her saggy norks at someone and Jennifer Lien is guest starring in Arrow.

Garrett Wang is still Garrett Wang though.
