Jenna Mitchell - hey, wait a second...

The main cast gets paid enough to move, recurring and day players would be local. Case in point, Rong Fu, who plays Mitchell, lives in Toronto.

My critique encompasses the question of who should have been cast in the principal roles, not just who gets cast as day players.

They seem to go Canadian for a lot of guest-stars and supporting roles.

The casting agent who works for Star Trek works in Canada close to the set, and develops relationships with local agents who represent local actors.

The many Canadian Agents who represent Canadian actors in Canada trying to force Star Trek to employ their Canadian actors, work in Canada.

That explains all the extras, and some of the guest stars.

The Network back in America has relationships with many popular b-list American actors to play supporting roles, and some of these Actors do not mind leaving the country, the US, for weeks or months at a time, to work, and they are legally allowed to work in Canada.

Shit you know, sorry.

... As for Jenna Mitchell, she could easily be Gary's sister.
Or the name of the character could honestly be an Easter Egg added by the producers/writers for those of us who remember names such as Gary Mitchell or Kyle the Transporter Chief.

The more I see of some of the names they've decided to use for characters I think that's a definite possibility.

Yeah. I just took that as a given.
