Jenna Mitchell - hey, wait a second...

I hope Jenna Mitchell is more of a relative (Like a Sister) to Gary Mitchell. To make her the new Gary Mitchell would be a little disappointing.

If the story follows close to the original then Jenna is going to inexpertly woo a Sally Kellerman look a like, weather the Dr Dehner actor is male or female.

Allowing for gender, Sally Kellerman and Ed Begley Junior still had very similar physiques and hair cuts.

The Eastern Coalition is suspected to be "partially" China.

Originally, the ECON was China. They had to change it at the last minute. It's in the DVD commentary for ST:FC. (And if the courtroom scenes in "Encounter at Farpoint" are any indication, the ECON was heavily Chinese anyway.)

As for Jenna: No way is she intended to be the "new" Gary. Even SNW respects continuity too much for that.

Besides, Gary doesn't join the crew until Kirk becomes captain.

Picard: I'm not with ECON, I'm with NATO!

Audience: Ooooooohhhh!!!! (Admittedly that line probably wouldn't mean as much in 1996 as it would now in 2023)

In the days before internet I assumed Kyle was supposed to be Irish. Kinda sad they didn't lean into that and get someone Irish to play him.

I'm still of the mind that Chief Kyle will marry a nice English girl and gradually start picking up her accent, which is why he talks the way he does in TOS. (And he'll have to go through OCS since in the original series he is an officer.)

Either that, or Kyle simply has two native accents and just uses whichever one he feels like. Kind of like John Barrowman.

As an Asian man myself, I did not care for the casting of Kyle that changed his TOS nationality and supposedly was meant to represent us. And for the time being Andre Kim seems to have left SNW. Unless he comes back, I'm personally treating SNW Kyle and TOS Kyle as different guys with the same name, regardless of what the showrunners say (as far as I'm concerned, if it's not on screen, it isn't canon).

When one considers SNW to be a reboot, then there's no problem with a former male character being played by a female, and of a different race, no less. 'Cause that's what they did in nuBSG twice over (well, at least with Boomer.)

Heh, whatever helps people sleep at night. IDIC.

I don't see any room for debate here. The term 'reboot' implies a break in continuity. nuBSG was a reboot, since it discarded the original series. SNW is not doing this. It takes place in the existng Trek continuity/canon - the prime timeline, as it were - therefore by definition it is not a reboot.

Many think that's exactly what SNW is doing is disregarding TOS . Perceptions vary so of course there is room for debate.
