Jellyfish?

Ok, I don't really have anything extensive to say about it, but does anyone else have a problem with the visual style of the Jellyfish? Not the interior mind you, the exterior style and the spinny propellor is what I have a problem with. It seems totally at odds with Starfleet ship technologies and styles, and though we haven't seen any very late 24th Century Vulcan ships designs, it seems to have no design 'lineage' of any kind.

Thoughts?

Considering there's no real science involved in any Trek ship design, it's a bit refreshing to see some different looks.

Heck, in real life, look at how many different designs of flying machines there are. And they all work. So, why not starship designs?

I thought the Jellyfish looked awesome - like, one of the nicest looking Trek ships ever.
Not so sure about the Countdown backstory (designed by retired Geordi), though.

Exactly, and anyone who watched Enterprise, which showed numerous Vulcan ships throughout its run would be able to see the similarity between them and the Jellyfish

^ ^ I loved the Vulcan ring ships in ENT, and the Jellyfish looked reminiscent of them to me.

I agree, reminiscent of ENT Vulcan ships.

I agree, reminiscent of ENT Vulcan ships.

*snip pic*

Sorry, now that I have a static picture of a Vulcan ship, I can kind of see the similiarity now.

@ Babaganoosh, I was meant to make it clear I meant it didn't look like Vulcan ships either, but the pic provided by teacake, I can see that I'm off the mark somewhat.

I loved the design.

The whole point of it was to distance it from the usual Trek ship look.

It was funky looking and cool and fresh.

I was going to say it reminded me of the Vulcan ring ships, but I see I was already beaten to it. That's one bit of continuity I definitely liked.

I wonder if there's any old Vulcan High Command ring ships left in the nu movie era? Would love to see something like the Seleya-type on the big screen, as part of a Vulcan arc somehow.

I thought it was great. A radically different design is what you would expect from what was supposed to be a new, very fast ship.

Now if only someone would post pictures of the early ring ship Enterprise, the Vulcan ring ships from ENT, and the jellyfish. I'm too lazy to do it :p
