Jeffrey Combs/Shran as a regular...

Shran as a regular would have been good for the show. But it would have been bad for this forum, as it may have attracted yet another group of shippers (Shran-T'Pol). ;)
What, no hawt Shran/Archer love?

.........what?! :p

Some characters are more popular or prominent and others fall by the wayside. That's just the way it works on TV. Sometimes this is because they're not major players in the over all story (Jake Sisko) and sometimes just because they're a little dull (Harry Kim).
In ENT's case, the other four never got much chances to be interesting. Mayweather was a goldmine of opportunity, with him having more knowledge with space than the entire crew except T'Pol and perhaps Phlox. Thinking back, I'd have rather he'd been a bit more of a cocky know-it-all, because his character then would have been memorable. Reed never got one A-plot where he wasn't sharing the limelight with someone else (Usually Archer or Tucker), and Phlox was snubbed for not fitting UPN's sex sex and more sex image.

Hoshi...OMFG. Why bother when the writers almost always had the UT do the job for her?

If a character doesn't catch on well, the writers did a pretty shit job. Period.

I'm with the group who, although I loved Shran as a character, didn't want him onboard as a regular. Some joint missions set up by the Andorian's and Starfleet to promote relations (and from the Andorians p.o.v. sticking it to the Vulcans) would have been more interesting.

Yes!! But...not as a member of a crew. Have him commanding his own ship, while allowing his friendship with Archer to grow with its ups and downs. There would have always been some element of distrust. How could any Andorian completely trust the "pink skins" with T'Pol on board?

I don't think you could have a regular who's not on the ship. It would be way too much of a stretch for Enterprise to meet up with Shran's ship every episode.

I think Shran being under Archer's command and having to adjust to that could be another twist to their already complicated relationship.

I think Manny Coto could have made it work.

Shran would probably have taken over as leader of the MACO detachment on the Enterprise. I can definitely see him doing that; he is, after all, an experienced soldier.

Yeah but I can't see how bow dowing to Reed, as the MACO leader is supposed to be under him in the chain of command.

If anything you would have to demote Reed and make Shran Armoury Officer in charge of weapons, security and MACO's, but if you do that your just shoving another character to the background to make room for one thats not needed.

I'm sure Shran would be an exception. Hayes was subordinate to Reed (despite outranking him) because both men were under Earth authority. Shran, being an Andorian, is obviously not. Any circumstances under which Shran would join the crew would probably make allowances for this.

Also, now that MACOS have presumably been serving on Starfleet vessels for awhile (I think Erika Hernandez requested a detachment for Columbia), perhaps they are now more integrated into the crews, and their COs would be a recognized part of the chain of command.

Oddly enough, I don't care for the idea of Shran being posted to Enterprise. I would definitely love to see him more frequently, but it works better, IMO, to have him in command of his own ship because then he is Archer's equal.

On Enterprise, he'd be Archer's subordinate and that wouldn't work for me at all. Besides, Archer already has a subordinate who is also a friend.

+++++

though Shran is probably the best char on the show.

^No! :) I thought Archer and Shran had great interaction. Archer, Shran and T'Pol would've been a fun team.
