Jeffrey Combes as Shran

Delta Vega

Just love it when this guy makes an appearance on Enterprise.

Watched "Proving Ground" yesterday, fantastic episode.

And what about those Andorrian women ?

Shran was a colourful character (pardon the pun) - one of too few in the fairly bland ENT cast. Supposedly, had the series not been cancelled, he'd have joined the crew of Enterprise. That would have been cool.

yes, Shran was pretty cool. (except for the awkward "pink-skin" joke which makes it seem like he's not very observant about Humans)

I'd always wanted to see a scene where Shran and Mayweather exchange a few lines. Something where the pejorative, "Pink Skin" starts to come out of the Andorian's mouth and then catches as he realizes just how idiotic it sounds. And then he never uses it again.

Shran was a great character. I only watched ENT sporadically, but if I saw that he was going to be in the upcoming episode I made a point to watch it. I would have been a regular viewer if he had become a member of the crew. As it stands, I'm still waiting for Netflix Canada to get its act together so I can watch the whole series to see what I missed...

SHRAN? A GREAT CHARACTER?

Of course, you're right. But I just wanted to test out my "Jeffery Combs as Shran All-Caps Shouting" skills.

As much as I detest torture, that Shran/Soval torture scene is awesome, if only because both actors are going completely over the top.

That's TWO you owe me.

And Psion, I often had the same thought about Shran. I saw it more like, "That's right, pi...uh, b...um, uh, um... Ensign."

Shran was a great character. He was my third favorite character, right behind Phlox and Trip. Jeffrey Combs played him to the hilt, and was always one of the bright spots of any episode.

I like to view Shran in context with Archer, the Vulcans and the Tellarites respectively ENT as being inspired by the conception from "Journey To Babel" that the Federation is not a big, happy family.
Anybody who loves Shran but hates Archer and the pre-reform Vulcans might want to keep this perspective in mind.

Jeffrey Combs breathed life into just about any character he played in Star Trek, but I think Shran was his master piece.

I enjoyed Jeffrey Combs in all his roles on DS9, I was glad he showed up frequently on ENT. It would have been awesome to get him on to the regular crew, I also liked seeing a bit of Andor in S4, with Shran asa crew memeber we might have seen more of that,

As regards Shran being drafted to the Enterprise crew, the idea would be awesome, but when you give more thought to it, where would he fit in ?

Would a former commander be comfortable taking orders from Archer ?

perhaps an officer exchange program? send Malcom to the Andorians for half a season . He could even have some Section 31 episodes while there, and that would feed my desire to see more of their homeworld.

Having Shran drummed out of the Imperial Guard over the loss of his ship would have been the way I would have gone. He comes to Archer looking for a position because he feels he needs to be in the service, even if it's Earth's and not Andoria's. The fact that he's a former commander who has to take orders now on someone else's ship could have made for a lot of good drama.

^ That alone would've made extending Enterprise for a fifth season worthwhile. All the talk of undoing Trip's death or tackling the Romulan War, would simply be window dressing to that! :p
