Jeff Goldblum is Not Dead

Okay, in the midst of the breaking news about the very real, very tragic death of Michael Jackson, Twitter is being flooded with a fake report that Jeff Goldblum is dead.

You can try this link if it works as it is currently being hammered by the incredibly stupid who can't read the part at the bottom where it says it is fake and links you back to a page where you can enter any celebrity name and it will create a similar fake death report.

Thanks for reporting on something no one was concerned about.

Also not dead: The Queen of England, Britney Spears, Jon Stewart

Kind of odd, really. I tried the link several times and sometimes it redirected to MSNBC and sometimes it went to the intended link. Damn slow, either way....

This should work.

The purpose of this thread is not to enlighten the world that Mr. Goldblum is not dead, but to highlight just how quickly fake rumours spread. Goldblum's Wikipedia entry has already had reports of his death added and then removed.

People are willing to swallow this along with the news that Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson have died today.

The page must be getting a lot of hits; it keeps timing out. The couple of times it came up, though, it was pretty convincing. But we've known since Orson Welles WOTW how easy it is to fool people. :D

why are these celebrities dying? hey, is Elizabeth Taylor still alive?!

thank the gods Goldblum is okay. I've got a crush on the dude miles long. always have.

Don't presume to know what we're concerned about. ;)

Heh. You may be joking, but another forum I frequent already has a thread where people thought this was for real. A moderator had to go in and change the thread title after everyone figured out it was a fake. So I appreciated the heads-up, at any rate.

I read about this on one person's Twitter. Curious, I did a search on TweetDeck for "Goldblum". This one really spread quickly with people posting the same link over and over. Every automatic refresh increased the number different people talking about it as if it was true.

As RJ says, it seems very much like the Orson Welles broadcast.

TMZ's got nothing on this and they were the first to talk about Michael Jackson's death. I'd call it a fake outright, but today I can't be sure.

I wonder if one day enough people will believe in such a hoax that it eventually does become true? Can enough people convince everyone else that someone doesn't exist, or even will somone into existence from out of thin air? :p

In other news, pepper steak is NOT the entree. :bolian:

"Insert Actor Here" falls to his death off the Kauri Cliffs is a common bollocks rumour headline that goes around every couple of months.
