Jean-Luc's naughty thoughts

You know, the more I think about it, the more I think Lwaxana is one of those absolutely brilliant people who are so intelligent they just play dumb or airheaded because they have literally nothing to prove (see also: O'Neil on SG-1 or Paris over on VOY). She is probably an extremely talented telepath, as Deanna alludes to. She is just so aware of the absurdity of existence and individual identity that she has trouble taking anything seriously.

She's also quite useful to have in your corner. She casually prevented a terrorist bombing at that conference and barely acknowledged the fact that she probably saved dozens or hundreds of lives. She was willing to possibly sacrifice herself to that daimon to save Will and Deanna. She looks after her friends and family almost aggressively. She's actually pretty damn noble.

Her behavior is a deliberate choice, & that makes it well thought out, even though one might assume, on the surface, that it's just rude or oafish. It's actually a carefully crafted persona that has been chosen likely as a way to interact with people who she has intimate knowledge of their innermost thoughts. It's rather surreptitious. If you want to disarm nontelepaths who know you can read them, you might deliberately throw them off by suggesting wrong things about their thoughts, like she does with Picard. Her behavior seems almost in contrast with someone who can read people. That has to be deliberate. It's underplaying her abilities.

^There's reason to that. Facing a high-ranking Federation diplomat who probably belongs to the very highest circles of Betazoid society and might therefore have a lot of influence and connections, both visible and hidden, and who can read your thoughts probably would be an extremely intimidating experience. People would desperately try go control their thoughts, stifling the atmosphere wherever she went (outside of Betazed itself, perhaps). No wonder she adopts this 'silly' persona.

Perhaps Jean-Luc didn't want to get involved with Lwaxana because a relationship with her would mean he would be his couselor's stepdad?
Also, Picard's first officer would have been "the ex" of his stepdaughter.

I maintain that Lwaxana was also very much not his type, but it's possible that would be a factor as well. That and Picard had no great desire to be a member of the Betazoid nobility.

Simple question: do you think Picard actually harbored naughty thoughts about Lwaxana, which he refused to admit to - or do you think she was just screwing with him to watch him squirm for her own amusement?

Personally, I find her dead sexy.

I LOVE this post!

I think J-LP really liked Lwaxana, (who wouldn't?) but because of Deanna, who he also liked, somewhat less perhaps, (she's certainly more irritating..."I feel..." "I sense..." FO!) he never allowed himself to pursue that relationship.

Picard was very much a man afraid of his own erection.
I wouldn't say afraid... Maybe irritated by lol

When the fancy hit him, he was never afraid to just go with it, i.e. Vash & Nella Darren, & partiucularly in those cases, we can see he's much more afraid of how his exploits reflect on him socially, or interfere with his worlds

Basically, he's that guy who... 'What happens on Risa stays on Risa', & not a bloody soul ever knows about it :guffaw:

No. Of course not. We're not talking about a horndog like Riker, or Kirk, here. If Jean Luc wasn't interested in Jamaharon on Risa, why would he be interested in someone as obvious and forward as Lwaxana?

Well he CLAIMED not to be interested, but after a couple of days he was Jamaharoning it away with Vash in a cave.

Nah....he had Vash, Kamala, and Dr. Crusher all on his mind. I don't think Lwaxanna was ever really an interest point for Picard. I think that was just her giving him a hard time.
I had the feeling that Picard was an older man who had lost his sex drive for the most part.

Nah, he had emotions, even strong ones, but he just didn't flaunt them to the crew, as he told Vash in no uncertain terms when she visited the Enterprise and was astounded and quite offended that he hadn't told his crew about her.

He's "married to the Enterprise," and wouldn't allow something as frivolous as lust to endager his position as its captain. He sacrifices personal relationships to stay one step removed from his crew. Just because he chooses not to act on his feelings doesn't mean that he doesn't have them.
