Now there's a special edition blu-ray I'd buy. The movie's plot is still loaded with needless mistakes, but the tone of the piece in selling Shinzon as being Picard's double is so much more effective (and suitably creepy as intended by the makers) with Picard as a bunch of split screen effects, or in this case deepfake. Tom Hardy's voice still excels (he's pretty great!) but as a younger-Picard, his visage ostensibly being a clone of Picard never really worked for me as such.The only way to have gotten that to work would be split screen or the deepfake that exists now. (Shinzon having Stewart's voice oddly enough wouldn't work for me either. Hardy almost had the perfect look but definitely had the perfect voice.)

Granted, movies are made first and foremost for emotional reaction, not logistical consistency anyway (hence why most of us still find numerous shows enjoyable or great despite plot holes. Unless there are so many, or so many huge ones that didn't need to be there.) Get rid of some of the overly-contrived plot setup and the movie would have been a lot better. Deepfaking the countenance of Picard just shows NEM was onto something, even if it ended up being less than the sum of its parts.
