JD's Comic Book Thread

Read the latest issue of "Imperium" and loved it.

Also am now fully caught up on "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and am just simply loving the book. I need to apologize though to Savage Dragon I think...the book did review the first 45 issues worth of plot, that was bad job on me, I can understand how one could be overwhelmed or struggle through it as it lays a lot on you without really filling in the gaps...however don't let that deter you from checking the book out.

I can't say enough good things about this book. It is one of the best Turtle anything we've ever gotten, and honors so much of the various incarnations. I was very skeptical of the praise heaped on it until I read it but I have loved everything about it so far and no issue has disappointed me. I feel the same way about this book as I did the IDW "Ghostbusters" run, except this is way better!

I also read the first issue of "Fight Club 2" and LOVED it! Can't wait for more.

I'm guessing that Fight Club 2 is a sequel to different events in the book and not the movie, since the world ended at the end of the movie...

No it didn't?

5 credit card companies controlled all the debt in America.

All their secured server with in 5 buildings less than half a kilometre from each other.

Tyler Durden blew up those 5 buildings to wipe out all credit card card dead and save the American people from the rich.

Unless you're saying that that attack triggered a financial apocalypse?

I also read Dead Drop #2 from Valiant. This was my first exposure to the character of Archer and I found him pretty amusing.
Archer is a really fun character and his portrayal here isn't too bad so if you liked this first exposure to him you might want to look into the Archer&Armstrong series. It's available in smaller arc TPB collections or the vol.1 Deluxe which collects the first 12 issues/3 arcs. The vol.2 is slated for later this year.

The series, Dead Drop, however is not wowing me at the half-way point. Hoping for a strong finish.

Read the latest issue of "Imperium" and loved it.
Imperium though is another solid VALIANT hit! This series fires on all cylinders for me.

You guys don't mind that the thread still has my name on it, do you? I had originally started this as a place for me to ask my comic book questions and get recommendations. It's obviously expanded way beyond that now, so I just want to make sure you're still OK with the original title.

I don't mind that it's expanded beyond my original intent. I find the conversations a lot more interesting now, than if it had stayed just my thread.

Book of the Dead sounds like it could be interesting.
Book of the Dead does sound like it might be highly interesting.

VALIANT is doing a unique variant chase with this series. Instead of variant covers, like are done 1:10, 1:25 etc VALIANT is embedding a variant chase mini-series within the Book of the Dead. The chase series is called Book of the Dead: Legend of the Geomancer.
For issue #1 the chase series ships 1:25
For issues #2-4 the chase series ships 1:10
As of now VALIANT says the chase mini will not be collected in any future trades and not released digitally.

JD - as long as the reboot of the thread is called Captain Craig's Comic Book Thread I'm still ok w/your name on the thread. :p:lol: So to be clear, yeah, no problems with status quo.

i really miss the IDW Ghostbusters series. has there been any word on a relaunch?

I had heard good things on this and found out the series is collected in 2 OHC.
The first one: Total Containment, came out Spring '14
The second one: Mass Hysteria, comes out Summer '15(soon)

Total Containment is nearly or already out of print when I heard about it. I bought it on Amazon for the 27% off price of $37usd not optimistic I'd get it at that price. On Ebay it's starting to go for over MSRP. It came in and I'm curious to get started on it but I may just wait till after the honeymoon at this point.

Hope all those great things I've heard about it make my blind buy a good choice.

So these are incentive books?

In Fight Club, Tyler prefigures the ending of the movie:

“In the world I see you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rock feller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Towers. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying stripes of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighways.”

"Ghostbusters: Get Real" is starting this week I believe...which is a crossover between the IDW Ghostbusters and the Real Ghostbusters!

Don't forget they also did a TMNT/Ghostbusters crossover. I didn't read it myself, but I love the idea of that.

I swore I wasn't going to buy any more comics until I read more of the ones I already have, but now Marvel and Comixology are really tempting me. They have the entire first series of the Carole Danvers Capt. Marvel for $.99 each. The sale ends tonight, so as long as I avoid going back to Comixology until tomorrow I should be able to resist.

Exactly and likely to be limited and rare upon release since few LCS stores have high numbers of loyal dedicated VALIANT readers. Maybe VEI will have a buy back program for unsold copies but that's just speculation.

So does there being no digital release mean they won't be in the digital version of the main comic, or just that they won't be getting a standalone digital release?
