Does Manifest Destiny, Lazarus or East of West count? They all have some "extra" something special but I wouldn't call them super hero comics.
The last two I read the first arc of each but didn't see anything so gripping to stay with. I keep meaning to pick up the first MD tpb. Maybe I will at Wizard World in a few weeks if I see a good price on it.
Oh, and what about Ex Machina? I really enjoyed that but it might be just superhero enough to not count.

"Letter 44" should be checked out. It's what introduced me to Charles Soule.
I don't split hairs about it. Preacher, Empire, Midnight Nation, and even Judge Dredd are all basically superhero stories that somehow subvert the genre. They are completely supernatural stories but they don't fall in line with something like the Marvel universe.
One of the worst things about superheroes has always been that they need to shoehorn stories or characters you don't care about in there. It's one of the reasons I like DC characters better, because there are less of them. In the 90's, every time you'd read a cool X-men comic, they'd make some off the wall reference to (or cameo from) another X-series that were trying to sell. In fact I think the best stories of big superheroes normally keep it pretty simple or introduce new elements. I don't think we'll ever see another like "Craven's Last Hunt." I'm just glad they haven't put Craven in a movie because they'd probably make it lame.
Anyway, for an almost completely non-supernatural comic, I recommend Scalped by Jason Aaron. Totally awesome, and the art is fantastic.
Chew is actually a lot of fun. Not as depressing or as morbid as Y the Last Man. Y was good but I think it went on too long. If you like one you'll probably like the other, but I like Chew more because it's hilarious.
Clone is probably the only non-superhero book I'm reading right now, and it just went on hiatus after issue #20. No word on how long it'll be off the shelf. The writer had mentioned that they are developing it for SyFy so maybe that's taking up some of their time.
Also very much looking forward to Scott Snyder and The Jock's "Wytches" which is coming out next month.

I know at one point we had a TMNT thread about the IDW ongoing but I'm not resurrecting it. Just curious is anyone else on the boards is still reading it now?
I just read #39 and I feel it's one of the top 10 quality written books month in/out.
I feel like the book is building to a big battle w/Kang and the Technodrome by issue #50.
That Splinter will get his personal feud with Shredder done in the early 40's.
Last issue, #38, saw the introduction of an old Archie comics favorite Mondo Gecko join the ranks of the mutant cast. Good stuff going on with IDW's ongoing TMNT book.

I should mention for those still reading it that the current arc of "Smalville Season 11" "Continuity" featuring the proto-Justice League against the Monitors will be the concluding arc of the series. Bryan Q. Miller mentioned this during NYCC last weekend.
Well, damn. That sucks. SMALLVILLE has been quality all the way through. In the uneven wake of the New 52, it's often been my go-to Superman book.
Yeah, I was really enjoying Smallville Season 11, too. It showed a universe I much prefer to the main DC Universe right now, and it was written well (plus I liked the show). At least there is still good DC digital stuff to look forward to, even though I'll miss this one.
still reading TMNT. its one of my favorite books. Mondo showing up is awesome. makes me wonder if they will try a new version of the Mighty Mutanimals.
I thought Brand New Day got better as it went on. The early stuff I took a bit long to get into because I was still frankly still pissed off at "One More Day" but as you get along you will start to see why Slott was finally given the reigns and why in my personal opinions he deserves to be called one of the great Spider writers.
I think one advantage I have coming into Brand New Day as a jumping on point, is that I don't have the baggage of One More Day hanging over it.
