I'm taking a short break from working on the
Columbia Class to sort something else out. Star Trek is turning 60 this year. I've been alive for most of that, not quite as long, but most of it. Trek was my introduction to science fiction. Yeah, Star Wars came along, and I was living in the USA in 1977, so I got to see the original film when it first came out. But it didn't hold me like Trek has, it hasn't stayed with me over the years.
Star Trek, especially The Original Series, has stayed with me throughout. Yes, it's dated these days - but it is what it is; a reflection of the era it was made. The six movies that followed are also reflections of their times, as well, and were a nice addition to the wider Trek universe. They paved the way for Star Trek to return to the small screen again, and gave birth to a franchise that's still growing (maybe not so much at the moment) today.
So it only seems right to return to the beginning and celebrate the origins of the show we all love: the
Constitution Class - no refit, A, B, C, D, E, F or bloody G (or J for that matter, lol). The ship that fired our imaginations and drew us into this bold new universe. Yes, I have done it - but building it revealed a dark secret: the ship is woefully underscaled. So, lets begin again with a rescaled 400m long
