Jayru (JSnaith's) 3D Trek

registries have never been a solid indicator, but it was just an idle thought anyway. i made a "backdated" reliant model this week and noted that i don't think such a thing has to have existed and that it makes as much or more sense for it to to be designed the way it is from the beginning.

Speaking of design; 7 cargo/shuttle bays? 7? I built all 7 in and mapped the internal space. Where the heck was everything else supposed to go? My rationalised take has restricted it to three bays, with proper era-style hangar bay doors. I think that may be a little OTT, but... I'll make the best of it.
maybe they're shallow, but tall, with shelves? idk. with like... five or six decks to work with, extra wide saucer, seems like plenty of space to squeeze stuff, especially in the "flats"...

I am curious, do you have a gallery set up, such as deviant art? I love looking at this, it's rare a 111 page thread is actually worth the effort to browse in it's entirety, but my mouse scroll wheel does have a life span lol. I think if I spend much more time browsing this thread I am going to wear it out..:D

Hi and hello. Welcome to my little corner of madness :-)

I do have a deviantART page, but it's used mainly for my writing and other digital art. I keep talking about some sort of site for all of this Trek (and not Trek stuff), but it would have the same effect in the end, I guess and wear that scroll wheel down, lol

It's something I shall think on.
-

Updates on the Exceslior (you all thought I'd forgotten about her), I was playing around and this happened:

It's very rough, not final, and would require me to take some steps back (thankfully, I keep iterative backups). Thoughts?

More soon.

Yes. Just yes. Lot's of yes.

You’re not going to be happy about this, but please read on.

Despite the tricks we have been using to keep my PC going, it has finally died. The replacement is at least 7/8 weeks away, leaving me with just my laptop. My Laptop isn’t powerful enough to run the 3D app I use – even with an eGPU plugged in (we’ve tried).

So, effective immediately, all 3D Projects are on hold. They are likely to remain on hold until mid-April/early-May.

On the plus side, Corsair UK have – after being reminded of consumer law, agreed a full refund. As it’s a design flaw with the system, a system they designed, they are fully responsible. This will offset the cost of the new system.

But I have to wait for the new system, lol. It cannot be rushed; it cannot be expedited any further than it has. It’s now a waiting game.

I’m not happy about this, but there is little I can do. I could have picked a different system as a replacement, one I could have got now, but it’s better to get the right system and not rush.

So, I will be about to chat, answer questions, etc – but no 3D work for a few months.

Keep well, keep safe, and know I will be back. I have six ships on the go at the moment. Boy, will I be back!

More soon.

Sorry to hear about your PC. It's always a sad thing when something you rely on gives up the ghost.

I agree with Bernard - take some time off, chill out and reset. We'll all still be here when you get back up online. :)

Great news on the Refund and we will be waiting with baited breaths. Take the time to relax
and think about any potential changes, additions and new projects that you would like to
take on. Be well

Thanks, guys.

It is a massive pain in the backside losing the PC so soon. We had hoped the BIOS changes would have held off the degradation, but it seems the CPU was too far gone. Not my problem anymore, the whole thing has been sent back to Corsair (they paid for that), and the refund has offset the new system that's coming. Dave has, I think, picked a good one for me - even though I have to wait until March/April to get it. I'll reveal more later.

My desk is feeling a little empty without the PC, and I am finding that I am a little lost as to what to do with my time. Reading is always fun. Catching up on TV shows I have been meaning to watch (Strange New Worlds, Starfleet Academy, Blake's 7 Remastered, and isn't it wild that's being rebooted and coming back?)

Can still use the laptop, although that will be going when the new system arrives. Won't need it anymore. So, my niece, who has been lobbying her parents for a Framework Laptop, is going to have this one. I think with her 21st coming up, we can work it out as a gift. Given what we did for her brother, we like to keep things equal, and I love spoiling these two. Nephew works in Africa for an animal trust now, and she's training to be a Police Officer. Both have their heads screwed on right, which is all down to the parents (big shout out to them, hey, I didn't put the work in, lol). Don't have kids myself, as Dave refuses to get pregnant, and I have my own problems. So, being a great uncle is good and fun.

Yes, I am writing again - and enjoying it. No, haven't got anything to share on dA yet, but I may have by the time the new system arrives.

3D work... Making copious notes about various projects, there are some that I started, but you haven't seen - yet. So, maybe I can tease them out for a while? None of the data is lost, and it's all on the protected backup, so I can access things if need be.

And I think that's it for now, you may have to get used to me waffling on for a few weeks, but we can all survive that; trust me when I say, it won't be fatal, lol.

Anyways, more soon!

It is indeed possible to survive new starship withdrawal, but it's not easy.:D I know the feeling of PC trash though. I bought a new system in person from a guy across town a few years back. it still runs. But getting it there was a pain. Every couple of days and sometimes more than once in the same day Id hafta reinstall the os because it said the hard-drive wasn't initialized. Well, I couldn't get the thing to stay installed so I contacted the guy and naturally he reneges on the warranty. Turns out it was his parents business he just had keys too, he was in no position to warranty anything and his parents told me if I showed up there demanding it be fixed they would call the cops. I decided it wasn't worth it and found guy to fix it for a case of beer. I had to buy a new hard drive, the old ssd was fried. why? his fancy lighting system included a plasma tube. Obviously not intended to run near sensitive electronics, think of the emf those plasma balls through off, the kind that light up fluorescent or neon bulbs in your and and scramble calculators...same deal, in a long thin tube, inside the tower. Tore all the lighting out except the lighted fans. Still today I have issues. I can reboot but if I loose power or turn it off it's a fight to get it to target the correct drive to reboot, it never remembers where the boot drive is. It's off to monitor duty now for when I live stream so I can control twitch and monitor the stream from a sep pc. I could do without it if I had to.Main drive is so small windows update has run it out of space so..cant really install anything on it any more. mainly use it when gaming I can do something without the tab out esp on stream when I need to consult no man sky wiki. The next PC is my current one and was bought and built at micro center, water cooled, commercial warranty and all the paperwork. no more bs. Oh and the kids excuse for not helping me with the trash he sold me...his girl left him. I'm guessing he was not a trustworthy person in more ways than as a pc salesman.

Right, some teases (and it's going to tease me more than you, because I can't do anything with it at the mo )

The Columbia Class from Star Trek Online. The saucer needs to be bigger, the secondary hull needs to be lower and the nacelles should be shorter. Again, this was going (will be) a rationalised take on it, rather than what's cool for the game.

On to the rest:

My new system will be a Khadas Mind Pro with Mind Graphics 2 (eGPU) and Mind XPlay.

It’s a modular PC; plug it into the graphics, and I have a full desktop more powerful than my old rig. Plug into the XPlay, and it becomes a laptop or tablet. No need to sync between two machines – it’s just one transformable and flexible system. Oh, I know the risks; if the Mind Pro screws up, I’ll have nothing. But Dave has been rocking a Mind 2 with Graphics for a while now, and he swears by them, and that thing gets a lot of use with all the 3D stuff he does.

Given I seem to pick lemons, I left it to him to find me a new system (and therefore I can blame him if it goes wrong). And there will always be the very secure, protected backup – never putting my work at risk again.

It’s a good system for me, because with the amount of time I spend in the hospital, I will be able to do what I want, wherever I happen to be. Without the eGPU, the Mind Pro is rocking some serious graphics. On paper, I don’t need the Graphics Dock; on paper, the on-chip graphics in the Mind Pro’s Core Ultra 3 are more powerful than my own rig, but I’m taking advice on this, and… Corsair is footing the bill for it with the refund.

Yeah, yeah, yeah – hospital time, I should be kicking back and relaxing. Nope, never works. My mind doesn’t do time off, lol. If you have ADHD and Autism have you tried switching your brain off, or just simply relaxing? Doesn’t work.

Anyway, I trust Dave’s judgment (after 25+ years, I should do, lol). I just have to wait for the Mind Pro to be released.

More soon.

Hi! I just rediscovered your work. Used to lurk and watch your progress on the Ingram class project. Sad to see it's almost all gone now. Been going through this thread, and the one new project that caught my eye was the Challenger-class transwarp prototype from last year. Would really like to see you finish that one one day. Either way, keep up the good work and all the best to ya! :)

Welcome back!

I lost the original work, but... I did spend time rebuilding. This is from a few years back:

I couldn't not rebuild it after what happened. It was good therapy to restore it. Although just the one version, not the seven I originally did. And this time it took a few months rather than twenty years, lol. I may have lost everything digitally, but I still own both sets of Ingram Blueprints and still have access to all the emails between myself and Todd. So rebuilding it... Yeah, had to.

The Challenger Class I had a lot of fun with, and I do have plans to finish it off. It needs a couple of shuttles, a fully built shuttle bay and a self-lighting rig.

I think having so many open projects was good for me, but the melting of my PC's CPU has really buggered up me doing anything for a bit (other than waffling through the laptop). Tried to use a different eGPU, but Intel and AMD don't mesh well *sigh*

Checked with Khadas, where we are in the queue with our order, and we're near the top of the list. So, unless there is a big delay with Intel, I should be back up and running by April. Although, and we both had a good laugh at this, the way my luck works, I will be in the hospital when the new system arrives, and unable to do anything until much later.

Happened last year with the Wand Company Tricorder. I spent all of May in the Hospital, and had to accept that my Tricorder was sitting at home, boxed, waiting for me, because it had been delivered after I'd been admitted. Still, it was a nice thing to open when I got back. Just gotta roll with it.

Anyway, enough waffle from me - I'll bore you all. More soon.
