I'll give it some thought.
Thank youVery nice looking![]()
Yeah, she is a weird duck, but... I am beginning to like her more and more. I can fix the thruster issue - if I redo the entire saucer. So, that's not going to happen. Not gonna scrub a days work when I have an idea of how to make use of the mistake. More on that tomorrow :-)It really has some odd angles but then certain views of the ship are just gold
Thank you!Nice work!![]()

They are growing on me, but as I say, I think I have to mitigate the mistake.I love the thruster markings myself.
Thank you!Killing it as always man! That's fantastic!!
My thinking is that the Excelsior was the new Heavy Cruiser, and the Sutton the new science ship. Unlike the Oberth the Sutton could stay out in the field for a long time, do some deep exploration and therefore be more a long range explorer. The Oberth could carry on with specific missions, following things up, where as the Sutton could do the job and carry on to the next assignment. The Excelsior's would be the main stay of the fleet, and seen more often as they were kept closer to home, with the Sutton's and McCaffrey's doing the deeper exploring jobs.I like the idea that it's not a front line ship but doesn't look like it's meant to be a one and done ship, sent out to investigate a planet and then has to be back at the dock to refuel/resupply.
Will she have a platform behind the saucer?
Deflector dish, yes or no?
I think I may have gone beyond those questions I asked at the start - no platform behind the saucer, and yes to a deflector dish. LOL, in my defence I didn't think I was going to dive in as deeply as I did this weekend. I'm happy with the direction this is going, and she "fits" with several of the images that Tom drew, or at the very least with the spirit of what he was possibly thinking. This is all fascinating.
Based on issue #16, yes, because there are some space suited workers on it while Grand Admiral Turner explains the mission to Spock.
That said, your design works, because it fits better with how Sutton drew the ship from other angles (ie., the "mini-Excelsior" look). In other words, you could look at "The Doomsday Bug" and say, "Oh, okay, that's meant to be the same ship."
I'm thinking not.![]()
