That's the one. Besides, make this your own. We've seen two or three slight variations of the Ambassador in Star Trek. So why not another one? A 2358 refit?
This is great. It ties it back to the ship before. If you reduce it a little in size and smooth it into the saucer a bit more, it will become its own thing. Reduce the crystal size as well- it disappears entirely on the next generation of ships, right? Then, if you add option B back on, you have 3 impulse drives with 2 for the saucer and one for the rest of the ship- pointing forward to the D.
Thank you, it was driving me nuts! I thought it had something to do with crystals, but Googling just kept leading me back to dylithium!
I'll start proper work on this tomorrow - at the moment it's still (roughly) what I built for my Excelsior - Obviously I'll work it so it ties in more with the rest of the ship. But in principle, yes, this is the direction I will go. More soon
Here we go - Impulse Deck locked for now, but let me know what you think. This is a brand new part for the mesh, rather then something ripped off another. Comments welcome, more later.
I like that, blends in nicely. But I wonder what it would look like with the small fins on either side, are they just for aesthetic reasons, or do they have an 'in-universe' function?
Do you mean remove them? My thinking is that they are a part of the impulse cooling system. But what the hell, I can remove them. In other news, no new laptop until after May. Sucks, but that's life. and in 27 days I will be taking an enforced break. Will try and get this done before then. More soon.
I've got some time on the big rig today, so I shall what it looks like without them, but I'm leaning more towards keeping them. Yes. When Probert originally designed the Ambassador Class he blended TMP era and TNG era design elements - it's a ship that sits between those two eras, rather than strictly being a TNG ship. The Ambassador as originally designed has an Impulse Deflection Crystal. More soon.
Right... Have stopped work on the Impulse Deck for the time being. It doesn't sit right with the lines of the ship. Maybe I need to revise the neck, or maybe... I need to come up with something else. I have an "Idea D" in mind, but rather than focus on that I am moving on to the rest of the ship and I'll revisit it at the end. So for now, Idea B (aka what the studio model had) is what's on the ship. It will change. I just need to... Get on with the rest of it, so I don't run out of time. Pylons are now finished and I have moved on to the secondary hull - Comments welcome, more tomorrow
State of play... Secondary Hull is coming along nicely. Going to take a short break, boolining in the windows has made me go a little cross-eyed, lol Comments welcome, more soon
State of play at the end of the day - Didn't get as much time as a wanted on the Big Rig to work on her, hopefully the weekend means I can monopolise it :-) Still lots to do, but she's coming along. Comments welcome, more soon.
Aside from the lighting rig, a few quality tweaks and the impulse engines - the USS Ranger NCC-21179 is done - More on Impulse Engine "idea D" later today! Enjoy, comments welcome, more soon
Impulse Engine Idea "D" - Don't know how I feel about it. But it does sit on the hull more organically. Thoughts and comments welcome, More soon.
It feels a little too squared up to me. Maybe something more rounded like the D's impulse engines on the saucer? Not saying all the way, but taper what you have looking straight on. the sides look great.
