Janeway Updos

Purdy Bear

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Has anyone mastered the various hairdos that Janeway had during the seasons when she had long hair?

Iv been able to make a few, and Im working through seasons 1 as they are shown on Virgin.

I wanted to put my hair in a Janeway bun. But I'm not very good at doing hair and I don't know how to go about doing a Janeway bun. Maybe I should google it.

Heres the first few Iv done:

The Caretaker Bun

Time and Again Bun

Time and Again Half Updo

The styling head has 18 inch real hair.

Wow.. 18 inches! No wonder her hair in the early season buns was so intricate...

But, I have never been able to tackle it. I've managed the later season 'do's, but those are much easier.

Um I`m struggling to get my hair in a bun, some advice! My hairs about an inch long?!

You're a funny one... :shifty:

Purdy, my partner can pull off a lot of the Janeway up do's from seasons 1 and 2. However, her hair is 3 feet long from root to tip. I think you need longer hair.

After reading this, realized that 18 inches wasn't as long as I thought it was, so I asked her. So, my initial reaction was a bit wrong there. Sorry about that. :(

I like the TIme and Again half updo and really like the ponytail o' authority.

When I was young - about a thousand years ago I tried duplicating the Princess Leia cinnabuns but in spite of having hair to my waist I never had quite enough. Janeways buns are very possibly hair pieces. It might have been damaging to Kate Mulgrew to have to have her styled everyday.

All of Janeway's updos are a styled wig or extensions, I think. KM's natural hair was fairly short.

When the show first came out, my friend and I would try to do our hair like Janeway and Torres and go have adventures in the backyard. :o (I had just turned 10 at the time, in my defense.) My friend always got to be Janeway because she had red hair, which was so not fair, but I played along anyway. Anyway, we could never get her hair in anything remotely close to that damn bun. I think we always settled for a ponytail.

I really liked the power pony tail, actually. That's a pretty easy one to duplicate.
Really? Well, I’ve been planning on dressing up as Janeway for an event? Would you mind maybe posting a tutorial on how to do it? For some reason, I couldn’t find any online.

This person hasn't been here in 4 years. Youtube has one Janeway hair tutorial.

hmm come to think of it, no. just crop or bun. That's a tricky one because that's not her real hair. Hair people can make variations with hair extensions/pieces as they did. Like, hiding things within the hair to give it lift.

I used to kinda fake it with my kid's hair.
1. pony tail all but the sides. Then take the sides and loosely twist, pin to hold while you twist the other side. Then grab the two sides pull them together behind the crown of your head, pony tail it, then flip the tail through the fork of the two sections pulled together and it will hold tight and keep curl. (this is hard to explain without a photo)
2. Then take the pony tail holder out of the lower half of hair and connect it to your flipped connection and tie that off together and add a decorative clip.

That's the best I got for now.

That’s fine. Thanks for the tips!

Here are two videos that you can splice ideas from to make it.

First one is only half side, so you'd repeat on other?

Thanks so much! I’ll let you know how it turns out!

Strange to think that Kathryn Janeway was once married to Detective Columbo isn't it? :D
JB

Oh, I can think of more delicious combinations - Robert "Striker" Hayes and Cherrie "Runaways" Currie... and speaking of buns, I need a sandwich... with lettuce and tomato and pepper jack cheese and a big slab of processed pink slime chicken...
