Janeway and the Q Continuum

I've been reading some of the threads that have focused on Janeway's "death," and I realized that the last we saw of her in "Before Dishonor," she was being escorted away to the Q Continuum by Lady Q. So, what's she doing there? I can't see her enjoying herself in the Continuum we saw in "Death Wish," can you? What was it Q said? "Oh, we've all done the scarecrow, big deal."

Knowing Janeway, she wouldn't stay long. I'd think she'd tire of the place at once demand to be returned to her own reality. At least, that's what she did in "Coda," when the aliens tried to lure her away, and that would be pretty consistent with her character. She'd be such a pain in Q's side that he'd do whatever needed to do to get rid of her.

The truth is that she's out there, doing something. I'm thinking she'll be back with a bang.

;)

Oi! Book spoiler! I plan on reading past 30 pages at some point.

No, not the death, the afterlife.

Ripping off Sheridan gone to live with the first ones a little.

I put it down a month ago and haven't had cause to pick it up again.

You're realising that only just now? :p

You're now pondering that there are, indeed, Janeway stories as yet untold, that can be inspired by the events of "Before Dishonor"?

I've also read the ending of "Before Dishonor" and it struck me as a relatively close, rip off the the beginning of the Next Generation episode "Tapestry." With that kind of ending, I'm thinking time line distortion and a reset that puts every thing leading to "Before Dishonor" and after right out.

I hate the name "lady Q" .

It sounds like an electric razor.

Isn't it snazzier that they are all called Q with absolutely no distinction? Calling Corbin Bersen Q2 was just ridiculous. Maybe QToo, but that would have made far to many people vomit.

Although PAD calls the kid "q" which is just adorable.

Gods.

I just finished watching the new Eli Stone, and I just did not recognize Suzie at all. I mean it was a good looking woman in her 40s with a nice stock of red hair, so of course I squinted and said said to me: "is that Suzie?" I replied to myself "no". However I didn't recognize her on Enterprise till the second viewing but in my defense she was painted blue at the time.

Ummm, pardon?

Spoilers? For "Before Dishonor"? The book has been out for a year and a half, and Janeway's "death" has been the topic of discussion ad nauseum for months here. Sorry if I somehow ruined the plot for you . . . :shifty:

I've been so aggravated by Janeway's "death" that I didn't really stop to think about what she's doing while in the company of the Q. I can't imagine that she's happy being away from the Federation and, especially, her beloved crew. Trust me when I say that I have no special insight to future books, but it seems to me that Kathryn Janeway left to stew for a period of time with the Q could be the recipe for a spectacular return. And, since she really isn't "dead," she really wouldn't be coming back to life, now would she? :guffaw:

When/if that happens, I'll buy "Full Circle" and any other intervening book with glee. And I won't even wait for them to be $1 from an Amazon Marketplace bookstore.

:techman:

I haven't read the book, but I imagined she was planet-hopping or dimension-hopping with Lady Q rather than just hanging out 'doing the scarecrow.'

honestly, you may be in for a long wait or you may just want to start looking into another hobby now. kirsten beyer said to some us that her editor told her to treat janeway as if she were dead, dead--not just a little dead. then, there's also the rumor that has some merit where either TPTB at cbs or someone higher up asked for the addition where the female Q (better?) to "save" janeway. that part wasn't originally part of the story.

when i read about janeway being pulled into the continuum, i'm surprised that it wasn't q who did it. after all, he calls her "aunt kathy" and she is a godparent to him (as much as one can be to a q).

They all killed him on the Orient Express, Rosebud was his sled, and Darth Vader was Luke Skywalkers Father!

Janeway dies in the beginning of the book, which has become public knowledge and in fact is the best advertising for the novel possible, but you're spoiling the end of the book, and you put that spoiler in the Thread title.

The statute of limitations is a little different for novel spoilers.

O, and Harry Potter dies in the last novel too.

He dies?

Hell, I was just making shite up.

I can barely get though those movies without vomiting.

A beautiful woman, was staying over once, and she she was too drunk to read so she asked me to read her a chapter of one of the novels in the middle of the series before she passed out or chose to go to sleep.

I hate it when I compromise my values like that.

Sounds like you only hang out with quality women.:techman:

^ I knew an online reviewer - can't remember his name now - who used to call her that. I thought it was fabulous. He was the first one I saw refer to the Doctor as "Holodoc," too.

I dunno... From "The Q and the Gray":

Q: ....Think of the opportunities here in the Continuum. The entire universe would be our child's playground. Together the two of you could explore dimensions you've never even imagined. 'Fess up. Isn't it even slightly tempting?

JANEWAY: I'd be lying if I said no. What explorer wouldn't be intrigued by the idea of seeking out whole new dimensions. But I have other responsibilities, and I won't just abandon them.

That was on Voyager, when her responsibility was to get her crew home.

Now? Why wouldn't Janeway--a scientist at heart--want to explore all she could in the Continuum?

Here's an idea.... remember in "Q2"

:scream: Q: If the Continuum's told you once, they've told you a thousand times. Don't provoke the Borg! :scream:

They never fully explained why the Q acted that way, considering all the power the Q have. There could be a really interesting story involving an attack on the Q by the Borg. (Remember, "Q and the Grey" showed that ships could enter Q territory.) Maybe the Borg assimilated that knowledge at one point. (Unimatrix Zero episode?) And since Janeway has so much experience with them, they rescued her from death so she could help them. This could explain why she hasn't been able to contact her crew. Maybe when Voyager returns to the Delta Quadrant, they'll enter into a galactic battle and then....Janeway appears on the bridge.

I call dibs on this story.
