Jamie Bamber to "17th Precinct"

Bamber's going back to work with Ron Moore on the latter's "magic cops" project for NBC:

Also noted in the article is that FX has passed on U.S.S. Alabama. Big surprise there. ;)

He and Stockard Channing should make for interesting co-stars. I hope this show gets picked up to series and also survives more than three episodes. :D

I was rooting for Alabama, just for the sake of a space opera series on TV.

So his second gig in a row playing a homicide detective. Does this mean Law & Order: UK is going to have its first cast change? Or did that series even get renewed?

Throw in a bunch of 'quirk' and 'spunk' (too bad James Callis is already on Eureka) and you'd have a guaranteed hit, eh?

I think that Callis's arc on Eureka reached its conclusion at the end of the 2010 (half-)season.

Does this mean the hottie is done with Law and Order: UK? Or will this be filmed during the other series' hiatus?

Given the short season length for Law and Order UK he can probably fit both in. At minimum I expect he'll wait until 17th Precinct gets a second season before leaving LO:UK

Last I heard Moore was working on a reboot of the Wild, Wild West. I guess that fell through, huh? Just as well, I suppose.

He wouldn't be the first producer to have multiple shows in development or even on the air at the same time. Moore is developing both the WWW remake for CBS and 17th Precinct for NBC.

He's also starring in a BBC sci-fi show called Outcasts, currently airing but I'm not sure if it's planned to go beyond 1 season or whether or not he survives it (I'm currently Sky Plussing it, to record later).

He could conceivably do both. L&O:UK only films a handful of episodes at a time and he's only in half of the episodes.

Multiple shows running at the same time? It's good to be working in TV! :)

Not only did L&O: UK get renewed, Peter Davison is joining the cast!!!

Which is to say, he's in all the episodes but only featured in half of each one. Give or take; it isn't always a strict 50/50 breakdown.

Wow, so its cast now includes both a Doctor and a companion (Freema Agyeman)! I looked up the information, and it looks like Davison is replacing Bill Paterson, who was Prof. Bracewell in the latest Doctor Who season and is the UK equivalent of the DA character. So Davison will probably have regular scenes with Agyeman.

Here's hoping Bamber being state-side for some time will lead him to some convention appearances... :)

As what character?

As I mentioned above, Wikipedia says he's taking over the equivalent of the DA role, the boss of the prosecutors (i.e. the like Arthur Hill's or Fred Thompson's role).

I hope they come up with a better title than "17th Precinct."

Yeah, it doesn't really suggest anything other than a routine cop show.
