James Doohan

Do any of you know if the injury James Doohan suffered in World War II to his right hand ever showed in the movies?
It's been stated in some sources that the injury showed in at least 2 episodes of TOS.
Ever wonder why they never let the injury show and explain that it was due to a mishap on an old ship?

I figured it would raise the question that, in the time of Star Trek, why he couldn't have a new finger grown or otherwise get it healed. Or maybe he was self-conscious about it? I dunno.

I don't know that it would raise that question. Miranda was blind in 'In Truth is There No Beauty?" Did anyone ever raise the question why she couldn't be treated?

Remember the scene in STVI when he kicks the door down and shoots the fake Klingon? He's standing in the doorway holding his phaser in his right hand.

He was reportedly self-conscious about the injury, and didn't want it to be onscreen.

I actually felt gut checked when I was watchin' the featurettes on one of the TOS DVD sets, and James Doohan held up his hand and showed the missin' digit!

You can see his four-digit hand quite clearly in his first scene in Star Trek V. (When Uhura invites him to "dinner"...)

Every generation has their actor missing a digit. For me, it was Walter Jones, the Black Ranger.

I personally don't care. The man was an acting genius

 I don't think you're understanding us correctly.

I shook that hand in 1987 when he came to sign autgraphs at a car show in Winnipeg...then about a year later I was reading some Star Trek trivia and found out about his missing finger. That was a wacky revelation.
