Re: James Cawley (New Voyages) has seen the Ship (Its Aweful

There will be more than one ship in this film. Some aren't even STARFLEET ships.

What are the chances that someone might catch a glimpse of one of the other ships (say, Commander Kirk's command prior to Enterprise) and conclude, WRONGLY, that this is the "new Enteprise?"

Oh, and give up on asking "bonafides" from certain people... they just won't reply. ;)

Cawley COULD have said this. I don't believe it unless it comes from him. Provide a link, or a video quote... ANYTHING... but don't just say "well, I have a friend whose cousin dated the secretary of the tax accountant to J.J. Abram's second cousin twice removed, and they told me THIS."

First-person or second person... nothing less will do, kiddies.

I'm not registering at a message board just to read comments from someone whose motives for criticising are highly suspect to say the least, so you'll have to Copy 'n Paste them.

Re: James Cawley (New Voyages) has seen the Ship (Its Aweful

Okay, I found Cawley's commtens on the new Enterprise LINK

So, okay, he doesn't like the design.
This doesn't, of course, mean we too have not to like it.

Re: James Cawley (New Voyages) has seen the Ship (Its Aweful

Who fucking cares about second hands opinions? Wait until the real thing is out.

I have provided a link above as well as ST one. Read it!! By the way Cawley is a reliable insider since he has used Takei, keonig and others in his productions. Hell Paramount called him to borrow a helmsmans targeting viewer from the console from the enterprise console prop for use in the enterprise episode In a Mirror Darkly to use as the Defiants targeting viewer on its console that pops up. He is good to his word

Re: James Cawley (New Voyages) has seen the Ship (Its Aweful

The new look of the Enterprise is probably one of the most anticipated things about the production of this movie. It will be unveiled like a work of art. My guess would be that even now only a handfull of people know what it looks like.
I can't believe anyone "in high places" would be so irresponsible to give Cawley a sneak peak. What the hell do they say, "Keep this under your hat, but look." And, now that he's supposedly blabbed about it, well, so much for his friends in high places. Cawley wouldn't be so stupid to do that IN A FORUM of all places.

C'mon.

(Of course, I'm reacting strongly like this because if I deny it hard enough, then I KNOW the Enterprise won't have rotating nacelles that vector, wings, and it won't land on a planet. Denial is a great thing. Of course, won't we all be surprised when the Entperise really does turn out to look like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?)

How does hiring a bunch of people who've spent the better part of the past four decades unemployed make you a "reliable insider"?

Re: James Cawley (New Voyages) has seen the Ship (Its Aweful

Have to register to get in; too lazy.

But even if he doesn't like the design... with all due respect, who cares?

Unless he's gonna purchase a few million tickets to see the movie, I sure don't.

Re: James Cawley (New Voyages) has seen the Ship (Its Aweful

Here are James Cawley's remarks as linked:

Geoff,
I enjoy reading your opinion about this film, It seems overall are differences are very minor. I understand the reboot thing, it is simply business and a way to hopeully sell many more new action figures and toys based on new designs, it alway's comes down to the Money to be made. I just don't agree with changing such iconic designs that are so ingrained in pop culture, it is really needless.
.
And Yes, I have seen the New REBOOTED Enterprise, I have Friends in the right places! at any rate, I don't like it. It is supposed to be NCC-1701, no bloody A,B,C,D or E! and it sure does not look like the 1701 I grew up with!
James
No flapping wings.

Plus, with all respect, Mr. Cawley has spent the last few years trying to re-create the world of TOS exactly like it looked in 1966. Anything that is not that will probably not please him.

Here's another quote from Mr. Cawley in the same thread:
Re-imagining or rebooting IS changing what Star Trek is. I am not against the recasting at all. But Star Trek is NOT broken, it does Not need to be fixed or REIMAGINED or anthing of the sort. It needs a great story with a Heart in the familar trappings of it's universe.
What we are going to get is J.J. Abram's take on Trek, NOT Gene's Trek, not the one we have all been enjoying for all these years, I am sure many will enjoy it,, and Good for them. I do not wish th prodducers Ill will, I simply am not a fan of rebooting or reimaging, something so iconic as Trek.
I doubt he'd be a fan of whatever the producers do.

Re: James Cawley (New Voyages) has seen the Ship (Its Aweful

Those comments are exactly what I was expecting. He has too much time and money invest in his live-action fan fiction world he's managed to create, to be objective to this film.

You know, James is a member of this very BBS. It's funny we've not heard anything directly from him here.....

I agree.
James Cawley wrote: ...It suppose to be the 1701...". How does he know? Someone said to him: "Cawley, that is Enterprise"?
There is no doubt that will be others ships in the film, federation or not.
Not necessary to be a similar to TOS or to the films.

Besides, it is his opinion as trekker who is passionate about TOS exactly in 1966.

I'll believe this when I see it.

Re: James Cawley (New Voyages) has seen the Ship (Its Aweful

He is probably in his closet in the fetal position going... the FLAPPING and the SPINNING... the HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, FLAPPING, SPINNING New Enterprise!

*or so insider sources tell me... or are they voices in my head...*

*you! there! with the nets! stay AWAY!*

Re: James Cawley (New Voyages) has seen the Ship (Its Aweful

Does it have a saucer and nacelles?

Garibaldi O'Brien, I know Cawley. Aside from being rude and uncalled for, your idea of humor is entirely ignorant of what he's like.

A little tip: in order for mockery, sarcasm or satire to be even a little funny, you have to have very good aim. You're shooting blind and embarrassing yourself.

Now, now, now, that's not necessary.

He's more than entitled to his own opinion. He's put both his money and his sweat into recreating TOS. He's earned the right to say that Star Trek should look like Roddenberry's original creation.

Wings.
Romulans.
A bird of prey? :p

Re: James Cawley (New Voyages) has seen the Ship (Its Aweful

Folk's, First off let's understand that I have nothing against this New Movie at all. I am simply NOT a fan of re-imagining anything, especially Star Trek. I am completely put off, by the current Hollywood craze of Rebooting/re-imaging classic T.V. shows. Most of them inevitably fail, and don't live up to the originals. I would be a hypocrite if I did not believe in recasting these iconic roles, I do in fact support it. I just don't want the production design radically changed. I see Matt Jefferies designs as "TIMELESS"
and as "Pure Science Fiction", I feel the Big E as designed by Matt deserves it's day on the big screen. I personally Hope that this film makes alot of money for the studio, and that Star Trek is around for many more years because of it. If it fails the alternative of Trek's Loss would Suck. All that aside, I do not have to be a fan of the production design. I have seen what was purported to be the final design of the New Enterprise, and I don't like the changes.
Period. Saying that in No way makes me Not want to hope for the Film to be a Success. TPTB have been very Gracious to me and all the fanfims, I have many friends who have worked on All the Incarnations of Trek, and There are things I like and dislike about each one, But in the End I still Love them all! comlete with their flaws and warts. I am Hoping that this New film will reach out and Grab me, I am looking forward to seeing Leonard Nimoy as Spock One More Time! What fan would'nt! So although I don't like the Production design being changed, I still want to see it, and I still Hope it is a success. Who Knows, it is a long time between now and when the visuals will be completed, perhaps they could change their designs yet again, that is the nature of filmaking, things change right up till the last minute, it is just the way it is.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw the model and said it sucks.
