James Cawley cast in Trek XI

Can someone quote him...or paraphase him? As someone with a slow connection, there are two things I rarely do:

1. Go to Trekmovie, the site takes 20 times longer to load than most sites.

2. Watch internet video...unless it's really really neato, like the trek trailer.

Are you asking about his video interview on Trekmovie.com?

Basically he said he was visiting the studio for some negotiations [doesn't mention what they were about], and he wanted to walk by the old studio. As he happened to walk by, JJ Abrams walked out, recognized him and asked him to drop by the set after his meeting.

He was allowed to visit for a few days, where he was impressed by JJ's down to earth manner, his humility and humor- JJ even asked his opinion about some shots he was directing, he was impressed that this hotshot Hollywood director was gracious enough to be asking for his directing opinions.

When JJ asked him to comment on the bridge set design, Cawley was equivocal- he said that's not the way he would've done it- as a purist he would preserve the old sets exactly- but that it would blow the fans away- it was stunning, spectacular and would illicit a "woah" response. He was asked as a former costume designer to comment on the uniforms- he said they were perfect for the look jj was going for. And the acting he observed by Quinto, Urban, etc was so good that they would immediately be accepted by the fans.

Later, he had a long discussion with JJ and realized that Roddenberry's ideals and themes would be well served and respected by him. During the course of that talk JJ offered him a small role, he was whisked away, fitted for a Starfleet uniform and he was to report the next day for shooting.

Thanks, Valar.

FleetLord, This site sometimes gets sluggish, but TrekMovie is always sloooow for me. Same with ST.com.

My cynical side is laughing at the apparent desire to put everyone whose ever played Kirk except Shatner in this movie

anyway, over it.
Congratulations to James, looking forward to seeing him up on screen (assuming he doesn't end up on the cutting room floor, along with Nemesis' plot)
I hope he enjoys every second!

That would be impossible as John Belushi is dead. ;)

I'm thinking he will make it to the final cut. And as a purist he better not cry when wardrobe gets done fitting him for that red shirt...

James - I know you come to the site once in a while. Ignore the numbskulls piling hate on you - probably jealousy. As we say here downstate "F*** em". You and your buddies spent a hell of a lot of time energy money and effort, simply out of love, to entertain us and keep Trek alive. NV is a blast, and a hell of a lot of fun. I, and most people here, are glad you are getting a little reward for all the work you put in. I hope it leads to bigger and better for you. Excelsior! (not the ship, the salute).

"BITTER!!!"

Boy oh boy, the green eyed monster sure reared it's ugly head in this thread.

You jealous, pathetic little children. Grow the fuck up now, because your presence is neither desired or required in the forthcoming year. For those that wish to continue in such a puerile manner, PM me. I can suggest a number of sites that fit your intellectual habits.

:brickwall:

edit: Actually, idiot, your presence IS required. Without the ludicrous, bombastic rants that emerge from the self-absorbed corners of this forum, what the hell would be worth logging in to read ???

(Well, save for Cogley-brand entetainment.)
