I just got back from seeing Ash & Fire a little while ago, and I liked it. I don't think it was necessarily the best of the three, but it was still good.
I was a little surprised that Quaritch's death wasn't a little more definite, it looked like he was a goner, but we didn't actually see him die, so he could pop back up. Varang surviving too was a surprise. So Quaritch could go either way, but I have feeling if we do get more, which is looking likely, we haven't seen the last of her.

I think a theory about this that is sure to be entirely wrong but...

So Quaritch rejects the chance to bond with the planet and open his eyes. I wonder if we get another Quaritch in Avatar 4 if they make it but he makes different choices and does.

I watched the movie, and in terms of action, it was better than the second film. But I hated Neytir's hatred for humans in every scene. Just because some people are bad doesn't mean an entire race can be held responsible. Anyway, at least it was nice that she accepted Spider into her family at the end.

It is rather understandable, the vast majority of humans she has encountered wanted to exploit her world, kill her people, destroy her sacred places, etc., and the few that didn't she encountered mostly or even exclusively as their avatars. Her accepting Spider is a big step in her character arc.

I enjoyed this one significantly more on a rewatch. I think all three were better on a rewatch, as one could better appreciate them, but for me the difference here is significant. The similarities to previous films get lost in the details.

Second time round, I adored every bit of detail in Quarich's strong refusal to grow, Neytiri's path towards coming around, Kiri's journey, Varang's trip, the Tulkun growth, every interaction, the intertwined politics, everything is so good. Also every bit of choreography and the visual spectacle associated with it, and the way all the parts were fit together is insane for me.

From Mangkwan's making camp in the human city and the reaction it got, to doing what would amount to squashing three historical eras into an anachronism bingo by the addition of the windtraders – which also did a nice job showing more of Na'vi technology.

And everyone in this is so stubborn it's beautiful.

I was reading some of the older threads - the one in the run-up to Way of Water is particularly funny - Avatar has to be a flop because it was too long between films. Thus it has no "cultural significance", the lack of memes was also evidence it would be a bomb. One poster said that because his friends had not talked about it, it must be a dud.

The threads all go dead when it hits $2 billion.

The success of the third film is crucial for the release of the fourth and fifth installments. The first film grossed $2.9 billion, and the second grossed $2.2 billion. That's almost a $500 million loss between the two films. If this film grosses $1.9 billion, then the fourth and fifth will be released. But if it grosses $1.5 billion, Avatar 4 and 5 won't happen. This is because box office figures tend to drop with each new film, and there's a possibility the fifth film will also flop. James Cameron is considering this and suggests that the fourth and fifth films might not be released.

It just needs to break 1 billion for it to break even. It'll do that easily. Will it break 2 billion? probably not. But in today's movies where a "Hit" barely makes 500 mill..

So 4 and 5 will most likely get made, that makes me happy.

Now, I liked the movie, but i belive 2 and 3 could have been 1 movie. Just a bit to much repetition. Going after the whales.. again.
Hope 4 and 5 go other directions and settle the human/Navi problem finaly.
