I never read the script myself when it was leaked, but I seem to recall that the biggest outcry was over a Vaderesque reveal that Oberhauser was Bond's brother.
I think that's the bit that was rewritten. Given what's in the trailer, I think they've weaved it more naturally into the film and removed any "James, I am your brother!" moment.
I also don't think he's going actually be his brother--or at least not in such an on-the-nose way. My guess it'll be something like their families were close, they were friends when they were kids, their parents were murdered at the same time, and they wound up in the same orphanage where Bond was plucked by SIS and Oberhauser by Quantum/Spectre
Or Oberhauser's parents became Bond's guardians. Perhaps they were members Quantum/Spectre and even the ones who murdered Bond's parents.
Or some other variation, but that general idea.
I also don't think Oberhauser is Blofeld or even a Blofeld stand-in. I think he's more like the spiritual successor to No/Largo.
With the popularity of credit/post credit teasers and how they've moved the gun barrel to the end of movie, I can actually see them doing some kind of reverse gun barrel teaser Blofeld reveal to set up the next film.
It was also suggested that, when Craig's extension was announced that they were working on 24/25 (at least outlining) together, with an expected short turn around like CR/QoS.
It's safe to assume 25 is going to be Craig's last. I just don't see him extending his contract after that, he's made it pretty clear that five will be enough for him.
I'd also be really surprised if 25 isn't Wilson's last. By the time a would-be 26th film comes out, he'll be pushing 80--especially if they have take another extended break between actors.
Not only that, 25 is a nice round number. So why not go out with a bang? And what better way to do it than with Ernst Stavro Blofeld?
Besides that, I just don't see EON making the same blunder Paramount did with Khan. If Blofeld was in the film, they'd be advertising the shit out of it.
Admittedly, I don't know all that much about the McClory settlement, but I would be really surprised if they were allowed SPECTRE but not Blofeld. So I don't see using Oberhauser as a stand-in as being some kind of legal maneuver.
So I think they're saving him for one last hurrah. Heck, with the current naming convention, they'd probably just call the film Blofeld.
After that, I do see them taking another long break with Babs continuing on with (promoted) Purvis/Wade, a new actor, and another hard reset, perhaps reverting back to more of a Moore/Brosnan style.
