James Bond franchise--the return of SPECTRE and Blofeld?

I was reading an article recently about Drones and vulnerability to being hacked (either spoofing the GPS or blocking the signal from the ground). It struck me as a great modernization of the traditional SPECTRE plot to capture rival spaceships in You Only Live Twice.

Actually, that was already more or less used in Never Say Never Again, when the cruise missiles are jammed and downed near Largo's yacht, way back in 1983...

No, strike that!

Rocket "toppling" is an element of Dr. No.

GPS hacking was already a part of the movie Tomorrow Never Dies.

Not to mention that hacking drones was one of the main plot points of the newest Season of 24. If Bond did it I'd just feel like they were following rather than leading.

It's hardly unknown for the Bond series to follow. LALD cashed in on blacksploitation movies, TMWTGG on the Kung-fu craze, TSWLM came out after Jaws and had a shark and even a baddie called, er, Jaws, while Moonraker went into production as a result of the success of Star Wars. License to Kill was an attempt to make a more hard-edged 80s movie in a Lethal Weapon/Die Hard mould (borrowing Robert Davi from the latter). And of course, the whole reboot of the Craig era was in order to take on the likes of the Bourne and Batman (Nolan era) movies.

True, hard to deny any of that. I'd just hate for them to latch on to a plot point from a television series that isn't even two years old.

The problem with the idea of the head of SPECTRE being Bond's long-lost brother is that it's the plot of Goldmember...

Nice!

Is it just me, or does his Aston appear to feature rear firing flamethrowers?!

Yep.

Good ad. At first I was disappointed that it was all just a rehash of the first teaser trailer, but then we got some great new footage at the end.

On a side-note, anybody heard/read anything about Dynamite's new Bond comics since the initial announcement in late '14?

Nope. This SDCC will be a year since they announced they had the Bond license. Perhaps they'll announce something in three weeks at SDCC -- but I'm not holding my breath.

Just realized, they could be timing it to launch in October or November, to use the SPECTRE hype. I'm hoping that's it. Alright, let's wait SDCC out

Been too long without new Bond comics, I really wonder what the big deal is. Bond is such a visual franchise, you'd think it was perfect for comics.

I'm kind of surprised it hasn't been done up till now. It seems tailor made for Broadway, especially if you go the 60s period piece route. You've already got an intro built around a song and dance number, and if they can get the rights to use some of the other songs to mix in between original music that would be great. I wonder if they're going to do projections of the dancers against a backdrop for the intro, or go for dancers swimming in a big water tank, which would call back to some of the old elaborate swimming stage productions.

Danjaq LLC and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc confirm they have not licensed any rights to Merry Saltzman or her production company to create a James Bond musical. Danjaq and MGM jointly control all live stage rights in the Bond franchise, and therefore no James Bond stage show may be produced without their permission.
