Well, we don't know that for certain yet. It's entirely possible it could go either way. Just because Newman isn't credited on the song's sheet music cover page doesn't necessarily mean he didn't contribute to it or that he won't lift from or refer to it with his score. We'll find out when the full album is out in November.

That's because David Arnold had a hand in both Surrender, and You Know My Name. With Surrender actually being intended as the title song until the very last minute.

Thomas Newman by comparison, has not worked on Skyfall with Adele. Now that doesn't mean it won't pop up in his score, but in the past if the composer didn't work on the song it doesn't show up in the film (Licence to Kill, Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Quantum of Solace all being the prime examples).

If I remember, The Pretenders' song was in the movie the movie (both the song itself and as a cue) more than the a-Ha song was.

The Pretenders did two songs for The Living Daylights.

"Where Has Everybody Gone?" was used primarily as the basis for Necros' theme in the film.

"If There Was A Man" was the mined for the love theme for Bond and Kara.

a-ha's "The Living Daylights" was obviously used as the basis for Bond's "action theme" in conjunction with the actual Bond theme we all know and love.

In each case, John Barry collaborated with both The Pretenders and a-ha to create the score he did.

Also: for those interested, La-La Land Records re-released a new edition of the soundtrack to The Golden Child by John Barry last year. It's a three-disc set, so it's somewhat price-y but it is unmistakably Barry-esque and as such sounds a whole hell of a lot like a "lost" James Bond score. Quite enjoyable too, so if you're big on Bond soundtracks and John Barry's work in particular, it might be worth checking out.

Really psyched for it--it truly invokes the classic themes of the Connery era, but with a "modern" vibe. Rather like the better Pierce Brosnan themes.

Is it just me, or is she kind of invoking...Amy Winehouse?

Even though I actually liked Die Another Day and the one for Casino Royale, I still think my favorite Bond Film from the Brosnan era to now is Goldeneye. That had that classic bond feel too, and while I've mentioned this current Adele one sounds "Goldfinger-ish", I can see some of that modern Goldeneye flare in there too.

Thanks Aldo. I'm loving this song. It's like 3 for the price of one. Adele is releasing something new, it's the new Bond theme, and it's going back to the classics, with the Bond theme intermixed in there.

I just listened to it. I think it's alright, not amazing. I'm sure it'll grow on me.

I don't think it's as good as some of the classic Bond Themes such as 'Goldfinger' and 'Live and Let Die'. But I think it's an improvement over the previous one.

But I think there echos of some previous bond themes in terms of the style of the music. It'll be interesting to see what sort of title sequence they come up with for it.

There's no real spoilers in the clip, though I put it in the spoiler tag anyways in case people don't want to see the image of the clip. It just shows a bit more of a scene that features in all the trailers. Also it's the first time you can hear a bit of Newman's score.

As to the full song--excellent. Simply excellent. It's obvious the filmmakers learned from their mistake of dumping "No Good About Goodbye" from QoS.

Adele does the Shirley Bassey archetype justice, my friends. Here's to an opening credit sequence to match--classic retro Bond, with silhouettes of beautiful Bond girls, with the occasional gun....


Still...I'd say an improvement would've been--drop the background singers. Bassey didn't need'em--neither does Adele.
