...for several reasons

1. The boxsets are €80 each and I simply cant afford to pay that/nor would ANY ST series be worth it.
2. They are NEVER...EVER shown on TV here anymore.
3. I grew up with TNG and DS9
4. They are the only Star Trek series that you can't watch online, anywhere, except the CBS website, which non-Americans are barred from.

I have seen some of the first season, and a handful of others, and with the exception of Trouble with Tribbles, Bound and The G on the Edge of Forever I was horrably bored by it.
I think I've been spoiled by the bigger budgets and better effects of TNG and the rest and will never be able to fully appriciate it....if I ever get to see the thing that is.

It was recently mentioned in another thread that TOS is available for free via Adobe Media Player. Give it a chance. Personally, despite the dated effects I still feel its some of the best Trek ever made.

I am probably older than you. I grew up on TOS. While it does seem dated to you, at the time TOS was very forward thinking. Even the special effects were amazing for a television show of the 1960's. Keeping that in mind may help you appreciate and even enjoy the original episodes.

I first saw TOS in the 90s and the SFX were never a concern for me. I guess you have to be able to appreciate something for when it was made. I mean, yeah, they do look dated to someone today, but so does Vertigo. Or Casablanca. Or any great movie that isn't recent. But that's a matter of taste.

More importantly, TOS was never about spiffy effects and cool space battles, but about stories. Good stories. Which is why I think it's still as watchable today as it was when it aired originally.

I am probably older than you. I grew up on TOS. While it does seem dated to you, at the time TOS was very forward thinking. Even the special effects were amazing for a television show of the 1960's. Keeping that in mind may help you appreciate and even enjoy the original episodes.

Oh, no argument there. I'd be about the last person to try and defend Spock's Brain. Though some of the lesser efforts had a good idea that sort of went awry (e.g. The Apple, Plato's Stepchildren). In any case, when TOS was good, it was GOOD. I hope you can enjoy the eps when you watch them!

Agreed. And I first saw TOS in the 00s. But it does take some willpower to believe Kirk when he raises a painted piece of styrofoam and says it's harder than diamond.

If you have a decent library nearby it might be worth a try? Ours rents out DVD sets for weeks at a time and it's usually much cheaper than rental shops.
