It's official: Thank God for Remastered!

but it's a reboot and its own thing and nothing to do with TOS.
It ALL has to do with TOS, just like we ALL have connections to our parents. All is one, and change is the essential process of all existence.
My Dad loves Jazz.
I love techno/industrial.
My Son will love something else.
IDIC.

Question for those that care not for the remastered episodes:
Which is worse- CGIing Original Trek, or the JJPrise design?

JJprise is crap, but it's a reboot and its own thing and nothing to do with TOS.

How they remade the TOS f/x isn't a complet

e write-off, but it's botched.

That "crap" got a Writers Guild nomination, Producers Guild of America Award nom, National Board of Review award top 10, Producers Guild of America Awards nomination, Hugo nomination, ST's first Grammy and many others in every phase of production. You may not think its "Star Trek" but its a respected movie in the industry, with crtitics, and yes..most fans.

In fact, it IS an alternate history of TOS, but now the dominant one...TOS is another alternate history.

An extensive list of all the ST09 awards. It'll take awhile to read. :techman:

There really are two parts to this whole argument: was there a need to put new effects into the show for Blu-ray, and did they do a good job?
I would say, yes and yes.
But that's just me.:klingon:

If you show the TOS-R episodes and TOS episodes to 100 people...98 of them will say TOS-R is better...doesn't matter if they are 6, 12, or 47 years old. Guaranteed.

Whoop-dee-doo.

One more little kid vote for TOS-R.

That would appear to be the target demographic.

Are you saying the target group changes entirely just because the VFX are updated without doing ANY changes to the story and characters? This makes no sense.

And Brutal Strudel is right:
That's not really much of a put down: most of us were little kids when we became trekkies.
Little kids and young adults have always been the main target group of TOS.

Do those who object to the remastered versions do so because they don't like the quality of the remastered and think they could have done a better job or do they simply object to TOS being touched at all and feel the original effects are crucial to their enjoyment of it?

For me, it's the first. But even if it was done right, the originals should always remain intact and available.

The JJverse may be considered the dominant one, but not in my mind, and a few others.
I think the TOS-R intent was well meaning but did not get implemented correctly.

As far as I'm concerned, the JJverse has as much to do with TOS as Burton's Batman films have to with the Batman of Nolan's films and either has to with the Batman of DC continuity, the fig leaves of Nimoy's Spock Prime and a throwaway Porthos gag notwithstanding. I think of the movie as a really awesome Gold Key Comics version of Star Trek and that lets me enjoy the holy living fuck out of it. I heartily recommend that approach to the so-called haters out there. Looked at that way, it's a blast.
