It's official...Generation Y is definitely brain dead

It's only a movie, folks. Don't get to worked up about it. This, like Indy IV have people that acutally liked the movie. And for the record, I thought Transformers was AWESOME. I said it. AWESOME! From the moment Optimus Prime opens the movie, to the final climax of the last battle, I was hooked. Geeze. Some of the movie going world have forgotten how to just let go, and go a long for the ride. They see outlnes of blue screen and say things like, 'it took me completely out of the movie'. Imagine if those people were around when ILM just got started, and matte lines were common!

Some people also see a movie where Shia Lebouf rambles incessantly, the action scenes look like a katamari-ball, the *MAIN CHARACTERS AND DRAW OF THE MOVIE* are relegated back to comic relief and aren't all that big parts of the plot, a movie with entire plot threads that don't matter, go nowhere and waste time and too much time is spent on "funny" stuff like Sam's little buddy trying to climb a tree or that absurd backyard scene.

Some people can go see a Summer Action movie and be entertained by the spectacle and action it but also find the action it well done and the characters engaging. Iron Man, I'm praising you.

I'm completely able to go into a movie and enjoy it, snack on popcorn and just go for the ride. Transformers made me want to kill children. Transformers made me want to jam my roll of sweet-tarts into my eyes, Transformers made me wish I would choke to death on my nachos, Transformers made me cry and weap for the future of humanity because so many people loved it and praised it.

Heck, the entire list is pretty good. (Though LOTR gets a from me, for being over-hyped pretentious schlock, but atleast they were well made movies with some literary roots)

MTV movie awards don't mean anything. Hell, isn't Adam Sandler nominated for something every year? And the categories are as relevant as the categories for the soap opera awards. But come on, tastes change as you get older, more mature and smarter. Does anyone who grew up loving He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Voltron, Transformers, G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K., etc. still think they hold up today?

Actually I'm 34 and normally can't stand these kind of brainless, over the top spectacles myself (movies like The Mummy Returns give me headaches and make me want to kill the director afterwards. lol).

And normally I can't stand Michael Bay either. But I don't know... somehow I just thought his loud, brash, over the top style was a perfect fit for this movie. I wasn't looking for substance or a complex plot here (I could never take a movie like this seriously anyway). I just wanted to see some flashy cars, hot girls, crazy action, and eye-popping special effects-- all to a loud, rock and roll soundtrack. And he delivered.

I can DEFINITELY understand how the movie isn't for everyone though. In fact I basically agree with all the criticisms out there (not enough robots, cheesy humor, confusing action at times). But for me there are more than enough GREAT moments (the ominous introduction of that helicopter in the beginning, the arrival of the Autobots, even that kickass scene of Optimus doing a 180 on that desert road), that the movie still works.

But, these shows attract a certain demographic, and that's why certain films receive these "awards."

The 'generations' labels are BS. A useful system would have a new name every 10 years. As you can see, the current way of naming a 20-year span is pretty useless.

This is off topic but...

When Douglas Coupland made the term 'Generation X' popular (he didn't invent it) he was referring to people born just after the baby boom, in the '60s more or less. The characters in his 1991 novel are all in their late twenties at least. The X in 'Generation X' stood for unknown. A generation between two much larger generations that was ignored and forgotten. Media co-opted the term for advertising purposes.

It is ironic that a term used to represent a forgotten generation is taken away and used as a label for a different generation and I guess it's a fitting legacy that the first 'Generation X' is unknown and forgotten.

Those born from 1979 to 1997. Which means I'm Generation Y and not Generation X. Which makes me sad.

Nevermind. Y-Geners are from 1980-2000. Which puts me in the clear back into Generation X!

I believe Transformers to be the ID4 of this millenium. In future years, people will be wondering "WTF were we thinking"?

I actually still like ID4, it is what it is and I still get chuckles of out certain scenes and enjoy it. I think the more times you watch Transformers the more flaws you see and the more annoyed you can get at it.

Although it's weird when I went to my parents for Easter my Dad was watching it on DVD. Apparently he loves the movie and remembered some of the names of Transformers because me and my brother had so many. He keeps asking me if Shockwave is supposed to be in the next movie.

'83 to '97 = Generation Y
'98 to '?? = Generation Z
Although there are varying different years used. The MTV Generation is also thrown around which includes the end of X and the beginning of Y since it's generally given as '75 to '86, although I'm not really sure how you can count kids who wouldn't even be in grade school come 1990 as part of the MTV Generation. Maybe in the sense that they grew up with it I suppose.

Makes me wonder how GI-Joe will be recieved next year, as it is made by the same company. Usually if you are a Transformers fan, you're a Joe fan as well. What I'm saying is, each have probably the same amount of fans, not to mention all the people who know GI Joe from the 50's era. It could just be as huge. Would MTV choose GI-Joe as best picture?
