I can't tell you how much I hate the idea of a generation being named after a letter. So fucking stupid I wanna kick the guy's ass who came up with it.

Seems to me that's even more ridiculous. Times, trends and population surges do not change every ten years on the nose.

How on earth could you split a generation designation in the middle of a war, or social trend just because a new decade began?

I was kind of amazed at the reception that Transformers got. I mean, the audience clapped at the end. I'm all for exciting action blockbusters -- but that movie just annoyed the hell outta me.

Well, to each their own. I'm glad people obviously enjoyed it.

You're abusing that word by applying it to this discussion.

Historically, "accepting different views" has meant not executing, torturing, persecuting, and exiling people for holding those views.

I don't see anyone being executed, tortured, persecuted, or exiled here. This is an internet discussion board. No animals were harmed in the making of this thread.

Given that fact, I think it's the height of arrogance and pretentiousness to demand "tolerance" for your views. Basically, you're demanding the right to speak without being contradicted, and imposing on others the duty to listen in silence, even if they disagree. Those are the demands and impositions of a tyrant.

Disagreeing is fine. If you didn't like Transformers, that's ok (see JacksonArcher's post above for a perfectly good example of respectfully disagreeing). Do you really believe it is respectful to flame people just because they enjoyed a movie you did not? I think the poster's point is that disagreeing does not have to turn into bashing.

This member of Generation X loved Transformers. I admit it was no Citizen Kane, but a film doesn't have to be "high art" to be enjoyable.

I'm not asking people to agree with me, I am asking people not to call each other fucking retards if they dont.

And unless you have actually lived under a real life tyrant, you should be carefull how you bandy the word about

    M-I-S-S-I-N-G (the point).

    This.

I honestly thought this thread was from TNZ. The definition of tolerance does apply here. How could you possibly hate someone for the movies/music they like? I'd barely have any friends at all if I went on like that! ;)

When life becomes more about shitting on others for what they like instead of accepting it, moving on and enjoying what you like in your time off... time to re-evaluate.

No, I don't. But that's not the point.

Then he shouldn't ask for "tolerance." He should ask for civility, or politeness, or what have you. Calling these things "tolerance" is an abuse of language.

Then why don't you just say that?

That's a fucking retarded thing to say.
