I plan to watch the movie for what it is.

However, I will no doubt be comparing the old cast to the new cast. It's hard not to, since they are playing the same characters.

Not saying I'll dislike them, necessarily. But it will be hard not to compare Chris Pine's Kirk to Shatner's Kirk.

It's inevitable.

I don't believe that Trek is finished but I won't miss the hot date. So I go for the date, persuade the girl to watch the new movie with me, watch the movie for what it is, compare the new actors with the originals, watch closely for continuity errors and when it's over I will go home and complain about it on Trek BBS.

Oh BTW, I am such a geek/old man - I have seen every TREK movie on opening day from TMP through NEM. So even if I bitch about the movies here, I still go to the theater with the hopes of a geek-gasm.

I think it's inevitable to compare the new cast to the originals. However, I'm not just curious as to what elements of the original cast they use, I'm also curious if they bring anything new into the roles (which I hope they do). I don't want pale imitators, I want something a bit more creative than that.

True, the market may crash irrevocably by then, and perhaps I won't have the foresight to cash out ahead of time.

But I'm 99.9% sure I'll be able to afford to hire one.

It's hard for me to answer the poll because I'll probably do a varation of a number of those answers. I'm going to try to "watch the film for what it is" but there's little doubt in my mind that at some point I'll be comparing them to the originals. I don't see how any long term fan of the original series with the original actors can avoid making comparisons at some point. I just think it's human nature.

As for complaining about it here, well I'm going to try hard to NOT do that, unless the movie REALLY sucks for some reason. And even then I'm going to try not to complain. I remember watching Nemesis, pretty much hating it, and then coming here and complaining about it. After awhile I finally realized "Hey gh4chiefs, just because you don't like it, doesn't mean other people didn't (or shouldn't) like it." So I tried to shut up about it after that point.
