I'm gonna watch the movie for what it is and try not to have anything decided before I go in.

I tried to do this with Superman Returns and it was so hard not to. The film was so like the first Superman, it was hard not to compare.

Hopefully "Star Trek" will not be like this :techman:

I'll talk about the movie well before it comes out, lineup for the movie when it does come out (if that's even possible anymore in these days of megaplexes), watch it for what its worth and then talk about it some more. That's all I expect. What I hope is that it's entertaining enough to warrant a few more viewings.

Mostly watch it for what it is,
but let's be honest here, folks, we're gonna come on here and complain/rave about it, pretty darn soon!

Where's the poll option for "Go back home after the movie and watch the internet spontaneously combust?"

My wife is hot, she and I are going to go together. Does that count?
Ditto!

...and I'm going to look for continuity mistakes, too. I'm not as big a fan of TOS as I am other itterations of Trek, but I can't help myself. When a glaring mistake has been made, it bothers me. Help me!!

I have a feeling this may be the first successful odd-numbered Trek film to date (fan-based)... I'm surprised option #1 has the most votes so far... Kirk must really be the most popular Trek captain in the history of Star Trek.

It will be my birthday again. In the 31 years I have been a fan i have never got to have a brand new Star Trek Movie for my birthday. Whether it will be good or bad i still consider it a great gift.

I will watch it for what it is (as I've done for all the other Trek films on first viewing).

Oh, and if we can get a babysitter, it will be a date with my wife (and those are ALWAYS hot ).

you're sitting down and anxiously waiting for this new Star Trek movie to start! Waiting, waiting, waiting, hurry up da*n trailers! Ok, now the movie starts. While watching this movie, are you going to (answer poll questions)

I'll watch the movie, enjoy it, and then come home and read :the many Shatnermaniacs who are suprised that their idol isn't really in it,how the film sucks because the producers "dared" to recast the roles, how they're boycotting this film....

HEY! I wanna be able to pick the first four options, dammit!

i'll watch it for what it is, but there's going to be a large part of me wigging on the parts being played by different people (prolly see it twice...) and i'll be watching for continuity gaffs and then come on here and complain about them. if there aren't any, i'll complain that they either a)didn't show any non-Connie 23rd C ships or b)didn't show any alien Starfleet crew or c)both

As a lifelong Star Trek fan, I am going to walk into that movie like I have NEVER heard of the show. I will have no damn clue what a "Star Trek" is. Where it takes you. What it's all about. I would hope everyone else would do the same. It'd make it a lot easier on us all, I feel.

We no longer have a moron in charge of the US ?

* Smirks *

We will if Hilary or B. Hussein Obama are in charge.
I apologize in advance for going off-topic...

I'm not even an Obama supporter (in fact I'm Republican), but I think it's silly to stress Obama's middle name. I realize that IS his name, but you wouldn't be using his middle name if you weren't trying to imply something. OK, so the man shares a name with a bad person...Woopty-doo, so what.

Both Presidents Bush shared the name "Walker" with a convicted American spy...so what. Certainly John McCain shares his first name with some people who did bad things, and I'm sure if I looked hard enough I could find some "Bad person" who has the name "Ronald", "Wilson", or "Reagan".

The implication is meaningless.

...now back to our regularly scheduled thread...

You get an off-topic agreement from me. :bolian:

Back on-topic, if it's all right with everyone. There's a place to discuss the other one and it's not here, thanks. :)

I'll watch to compare actors AND for continuity mistakes...There are 2 roles I'm really curious to see how they're played out...John Cho's Sulu, and Tyler Perry's Academy Chief...I've only seen them in comedic stuff. Do they have what it takes to do Trek? I'm still kinda annoyed Paul McGillion wasn't cast as Scotty, but I like Simon Pegg...*shrugs*

I'll forego the hot date and take my wife. But if it's good, then the second time I go I'll take a hot date. ;)

Actually, from a fan's perspective, I've always thought that if the movie can capture us in the first ten minutes or so we'll just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Afterwards, I hope to exit the theater yelling to those waiting to go in, "Star Trek's BACK, BABY!"
