Its Just Re-Casting

I posted this comment elsewhere, but thought it more appropriate here. People seem to be up in arms because the Abrams Enterprise doesn't look exactly like the 1966 Enterprise. They're trying to rationalized how it could be an earlier configuration or some-such, or just dismissing the project out of hand because of the changed design.

I think of it this way, they just recast the part. If we can accept that Kirsty Alley and Robin Curtis are the same person, why is it so tough to accept that the Abrams 1701 and the TOS 1701 are the same ship?

Just a thought.

For those to whom the Star Trek universe ended with "Turnabout Intruder", there will be no pleasing.

Luckily most rationale people (i.e. the majority of the movie-ticket buying public) are a bit more open-minded.

Do we still have people around here who don't accept anything post-TWOK?

Those people were able to figure out the internets? And then cared enough to register here?

Crazy.

Star Trek Fandom died along with Kirk when he fell 10 ft from that foot bridge, they've been close-mind from then forward about anything, just look at the steady decline in Rateings and Box Office.

Its Turnabout Intruder, The Counter Clock Incident or TMP.

Whatever the flavor of the month is.

Makes sense to me. If someone can accept the recasting of these characters, surely a recasting of the Enterprise goes as well. I like that way of looking at it! There are of course those who don't think any type of recasting should be done at all whatsoever.

^ How do you recast what's basicly a hairpiece sitting on the ground ?

Let me guess it's not one of Shatner's hairpieces, well, so much for that idea.

I heard they recast the tribbles.

Yeah -- the original tribble was played by that red-haired guy from The old TV show 'Room 222'. The new tribble will be played by Troy Palomalu of the Pittsburgh Steelers in his acting debut.
