It's gonna be Khan (pretty damn sure now with the pics)

Picard wasn't the second iteration of a previous, well-known, iconic character. What if there had been a Picard in TOS, that everyone loved, who had a French accent as thick as PeePee LePew?

Then they introduce the "same" character in TNG. With the wrong accent. Now everyone has expectations to compare the new guy to, and something that glaringly wrong will result in massive amounts of squalling and angst for no good reason.

Instead, here's what you do: don't call him Picard. Just invent a new name and make him a new character. Train wreck averted.

OK I'll go out on a limb, it's Gary Mitchell in the end fist fight with Kirk from WNMHGB. His tunic/shirt has a starfleet symbol on it.

RAMA

He's a Starfleet renegade or infiltrator. So Gary Mitchell fits, but so does Darvin or another smooth-headed Klingon.

But here's another question: remember when they were auditioning all those Latino actors, as though they wanted someone of a specific ethnicity for the part? Why would they want a Latino actor to play Gary Mitchell?

Or maybe that was all a fake-out! They wanted us to think it was KHAAAANNN!!! :rommie:

Mugato Cumberbatch.

That's what I'm going to name my son.

Marry me.

Plenty of possibilities for interesting new villains without doing more retreads.

It's because the report that he would be a known character came from Variety, which is, you know, not the internet. More like the Wall Street Journal for Hollywood. Can't blame people for paying attention.

The difference is, the modern PC factor.

Yeah, like the casting of lilly white Englishman Jamie Bamber as the biological son of Edward James Olmos. The Latino outrage continues to this day. We're living in a post PC society.

Could there be a need for a Latino actor to play José Tyler (from the Pike Star Trek pilot)?

All of this fan speculation is as creative as it is lame.

Star Trek is back! :techman:

Trekkers are nothing if we're not both creative and lame. We're "crealamitive," you might say.

I copyrighted that term. Don't even think about stealing it.

Trekkers are a cowardly and superstitious lot...

I wouldn't call most of us "cowardly." Nitpicky? Mercurial? Spastic? Sure. Some of us are clear examples of those definitions. Every hardcore fanbase has its less desirable and flakier members. TREK's just happen to be more vocal than most.

I'd take great offense and tell you off, but I gotta get offline because Mom's calling me to clip her toenails and my horoscope said to stay calm, today.

The villain should be named Lord Norman Garth-Khanlazarus of Izar until we get his real name.

By the way, if it's Khan, should he be Khan or Khan Prime?

Maybe it's Zor Kahn...the tyrant of Sarpeidon mentioned in "All Our Yesterdays(TOS)"? There's more than one villain with a name that sounds like that in TREK.;)

Good enough. Because putting Zor in front of any name automatically makes it a cool sci-fi name. Or the name of a prescription medicine. Either one. But in this context, a sci-fi name.

Where did that come from and why belong to this board if that's the way you feel?

First, unless someone jumps in in the next few seconds, sorry for the double post.

This is the chance for some of us to show people we'll never meet from places all over the world that we'll never visit just how droll and worldly we are. ;)

When real information starts to come out, this board will get dead serious and carefully dissect and study every iota of data like Quincy doing an autopsy (boy, that dates me, doesn't it?).
