It's ''fans'' like this, that make trekkie's LOOK bad!

It burns. It burns.

I don't care what his opinions are. I don't know actually, because I started crying due to the white text on black background setup he had for his page. It's the 21st century. Can we evolve past painful web design. Please?

Ex Astris is a great site.

Edit to add:

Looking at those links, I don't see anything outlandish or ridiculous.

Maybe I just don't get the joke.

Apparently some Trek fans here want to make fun of other Trek fans. Maybe it helps their self esteem by making them believe they're part of the cool kids, instead of being the nerds they're making fun of. :guffaw:

I'm reminded of one my favourite Simpsons quotes:

Marge Simpson said:
Its easy to criticise other people.
Homer Simpson said:
Hmm. Its fun too.

So let me get this straight. You're ridiculing the fans that are ridiculing the other fans that ridicule the fans that liked the film. Ridiculous :guffaw:

Ex Astris Scientia is a good and useful site.

But while some of his criticism of Star Trek XI is justified, other points are downright ridiculous... especially this one: "There is a window on the Kelvin bridge instead of a solid wall with a viewscreen as on all other Starfleet vessels of the future or past that were ever shown. This is not a one-off phenomenon, considering that the redesigned Enterprise has such a window too. So there is something different about the parallel universe designs, only that the Kelvin predates this universe."

He's complaining about a window on the Kelvin bridge? Give me a break...

Just because we like the site (and it's good, all right), doesn't mean we have to agree with everything. The article is absurd. He should really take a Romulan chill pill.

Has anyone ever tried to explain why Saavik looks completely different in Trek III than Trek II?

KIRK: "Saavik, you changed your face!"

SAAVIK II: "It's still regulation, Admiral."

* Actually, DC Comics did a two-part "The Origin of Saavik" comic storyline that led directly into their ST III adaptation. She underwent pon farr (with Xon), and the artists slowly altered the tilt of her eyebrows throughout the two issues. Although they reverted to a Kirstie Alley-type appearance after ST III, the slanted eyebrows remained. *

I think Bernd has a big brain and likes to use it.

He is a little intense but he does make many good points.

Bernd Schneider said:
The movie plot is built on a chain of coincidences, obviously poised to get the seven main characters of TOS and essentially only these characters together on the Enterprise in some fashion, to link their destinies as if it has to happen again in the parallel timeline, under totally different circumstances. The first link in the chain is when Nero arrives in the past. It is almost the exact place and time where Winona Kirk is heavily pregnant with her son, who would be the best friend of Nero's archnemesis (or so he believes), Spock.

So, Herr Schneider, what does this tell us about 'Mirror, Mirror'?

  1. The near instant travel from Vulcan to Earth.
  2. The Narada just happening to come out of it's time vortex right on top of the Kelvin.
  3. The lack of surprise from Capt Robau upon meeting the Romulans.
  4. The multiple warp cores being ejected when there should only be one.
  5. The enormous shuttle bay size.
  6. The Kelvin carrying 800 crew. That's a lot for a scout ship.
  7. Engineering made zero sense to me. All we saw was a maze of pipes. We never even saw the warp core.

  1. There is no such thing. The editing of that sequence in the film allows for interpretation though.
  2. So?
  3. They've just been attacked. Do you think they are going to spend time musing why some who looks like a Vulcan attacked him.
  4. Have you ever seen that one warp core in TOS?
  5. It's not that big. And, have you seen the Cargo-Shuttle-Bay in TMP?
  6. Who says they are all crew? The ship could have been on its way to Tarsus IV carrying colonists.
  7. Yes, we did. Right at the moment when Scotty ejected the reactor-units. And, btw, does a current engine room make sense to you, or the engine of a car - lots and lots of pipes there too.

I'm Sorry, but this guy needs a LIFE! http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/inconsistencies/inconsistencies-trekxi.htm I mean COME ON MAN! it's just a M.O.V.I.E. It's people like this guy that helped kill enterprise. And he STILL says the NU-E is only 300 m.

Yes, it's just a movie..

Too bad some people have different views than the cheerleaders here at TrekBBS.

Plus it's a very well respected web site world wide. You should read and study the entire site before trying to impress the other cheerleaders.

Show some respect and a little less fanboy.

Something you guys are overlooking.

The page we've been shown is only one of an entire section on that website, in which ALL inconsistencies in ALL of Trek are listed.

If you click on the link at the bottom of the page, it takes you to the mainpage for the "inconsistencies" section, where the following is said-

"No one can expect that everything in 700 episodes and ten movies is logically correct and complies with everything that has been shown elsewhere in Star Trek. Inconsistencies are inevitable. Among them are rather insignificant errors during the shooting such as missing rank pips that reappear only a few seconds later. A number of more general blunders, however, require and deserve further consideration. Note that many if not most of the following are "light-hearted" inconsistencies. I may have come up with explanations but unless otherwise stated I don't insist on them being the only possible truth. Please keep that in mind before contacting me about errors, negligences or omissions."

He (she?) isn't attacking the movie, but is just doing what's been done with all the rest of Trek.

if anything, this movie being INCLUDED now is a sign of it having been ACCEPTED, not attacked.

QFT. Never seemed to be a problem before...if anything, this thread is what makes trekkie's LOOK bad.

There is, unfortunately, a lingering meme of elitism in the ranks of trek fandom. In point of fact there are more "die hard" trek fans railing against ST-XI--for often contradictory and illogical reasons--than there are casual/non-trek fans who find the movie otherwise splendid. The only reason we're aware of it is because we are part of Trek fandom; every X-men movie released so far has gotten a similarly chilly response from comic book purists.

But in the case of the comic guys, the same applies here: fandom peddlers are in danger of being rendered irrelevant by their illogical and ultimately self-defeating rejection of what is--let's face it--the best thing to happen to the franchise since TMP. ST-XI, besides being very enjoyable, may very well have saved the entire Star Trek brand, Bernd Schneider's nitpicking notwithstanding.

Yeah this isn't surprising and to be expected. If he hadn't done it some one else would. I definitely wouldn't but I'll say one thing, either he watched the film 20 times or downloaded an illegal copy!

schneider is insane. He is going to sit with his fingers in his ears singing lala songs while so much evidence piles up and proves that this Enterprise is much bigger, and cling on to the fact the it is 300m BECAUSE HE SAYS SO. I used to think his site a trustworthy source of information but if he is intending to so blatantly misrepresent the new ship because he doesnt like it I think it calls into doubt the accuracy of his other information.
