It's 2025. What things don't you miss now that used to be commonplace?

Thanks for clarifying, I meant no intended offence.

I notice nowadays people are much more aware of people afflicted with narcissism and personality disorders than they were 30 to 40 years ago (where their bullshit seemed much more accepted or admired; still is in fact, but in the US it triggered a national crisis).

There's a whole lexicon around the practices of so-called 'narcissists' and even if you come at it skeptically, if you've been on the receiving end of abuse from such types you can't help resonating with some of it.

With hindsight and life experience, a lot of narcissists (not very often clinical, because actual NPD or sociopathy/psychopathy is relatively rare in the populace) inevitably have that "resting bitch" face for some reason.

Since the poster is Canadian, I assume they meant Sunrise rather than Sunshine, and Sunrise still exists too. Albeit maybe not with as many stores as back in their heyday.

But since this is the things you don’t miss thread, I’m assuming the poster wouldn’t be seeking them out anyway. :)

lol i think this thread said what things dont you miss that used to be commonplace

but not here in canada

at least i do not think they do anymore

The ironic thing is that it's Sunrise that currently operates the new HMV internationally including the UK. It still has some in Canada, but it may be that the owners prefer using the Sunrise brand in Canada. And interestingly enough, Sunrise also owns Toys R Us Canada, and while they were healthy for a while due to their independency from the American version of the chain, they have been disappearing too.

Cigarette smoke. I don't miss that.

Now how best to keep Toys R Us Canada going? (Which is not on-topic, so we can discuss it elsewhere...)

Those stretch pants that say “JUICY” on the back of them.

Yup. I always carried a sign that read "taking a bath might alleviate that" I'd show to anyone wearing them. Sad part is, I never had such a sign... which is okay as I'd only be able to have used it twice... even then, seeing one with some advert emblazoned over one's butt isn't that appealing and I don't eat peaches so there's that...

Thankfully there's already a meme for those types of pants:
