It might be having an effect

I'm 22, and no one I know in my age range has said that they're looking forward to seeing the movie. I convinced my fiance to see it with me and she absolutely hates Star Trek, so even if she does like the movie she won't admit it. I have one friend who say the trailer and said that the movie looked fucking awesome, but he's 40 so he really doesn't count as a member of my generation.

I am 16 and a Junior in High School now. When I went to see Watchmen with a bunch of my friends, alot of them were like "Star Track is gay". However I could see the look of awe on most of their faces.
They already knew I love Trek.

For a teenager its not "cool" to like Star Trek, but I hope this film will change that. Even if it means sacrificing some of the oldTrek pacing and technobabble.

Yes well I see new fans and loss of technobable as a two birds with one stone win.

Trek has quite a hill to climb, that's for certain. The dork factor is on par with Dungeons and Dragons at this point. It doesn't help that you have a faction of Trek fandom essentially screaming "Get out! This is our clubhouse!" But having said all that, the trailers seem to be working their way past those preconceived notions. I think the word of mouth will be key. It will probably do respectable business in its first weekend (a nice number one open, not huge), but there will be many people waiting to hear what others say about it. These are casual moviegoers who are essentially, waiting for the permission of their peer groups to go see it. Sad but true, that's human nature. and Paramount needs those people to buy tickets.

I went to the midnight showing of Watchmen, and this was here in berkeley and naturally the packed theater comprised entirely of college students. I was surprised when people cheered at the Star Trek title when it came up on screen.

I saw Watchmen last night, when the Trek trailer started (Fuck yeah, first time in UK theatres we have the trailer. :techman:) everyone was oblivious to waht it was, i heard people talking; "whats this?" "Whos he" "Wooah" etc. Obviously, a majority didnt know the name James T. Kirk, or what the Enterprise looked like.

So, when the Star Trek type face appeared...

Silence.

Brilliant, they didnt see that coming. A kick ass trailer, action, sex, battles, bikes, chutes and... Star Trek.

The couple behind us even went "what?" :guffaw:

Its getting through, really is.
^It seams J.J. has done what we all thought was the ''IMPOSSIBLE'' make TREK COOOLL to the rest of the world!:techman:

I would expect Zachary Quinto to say what he said about the movie. However, my daughter just came back with her boyfriend from a Watchmen matinee. She mentioned that she saw the Trailer and both she and her boyfriend thought it really cool. She said that she'd go with me to see the movie.

WOO-HOO! we may ''just'' have another convert to the TREK side!:techman: I know I'm trying to get more butt's in those seats!

I hope JJs film will act as a gateway drug, if you will, and have a new generation of fans renting Trek boxsets, etc. If this film finally makes Trek cool again, I have nothing but thanks for Abrams.

On the other hand, new fans might JUST like this new iteration. Not many people would have gone out and bought Mission Impossible boxsets or Get Smart ones, for example.

My 16 y.o brother, never a previous Trekkie, said it looked awesome, and he's seeing it with me. Hopefully, more casuals will be enticed to cinemas by that trailer.

More importantly, lets hope the eventual film delivers on the trailer's promise, and deserves all the potential mainstream approval. Fingers crossed.

Fingers, Toes, Hair, Eyes, Tounge, and ''other'' things crossed!:p
