I am 16 and a Junior in High School now. When I went to see Watchmen with a bunch of my friends, alot of them were like "Star Track is gay". However I could see the look of awe on most of their faces.
They already knew I love Trek.
For a teenager its not "cool" to like Star Trek, but I hope this film will change that. Even if it means sacrificing some of the oldTrek pacing and technobabble.
^It seams J.J. has done what we all thought was the ''IMPOSSIBLE'' make TREK COOOLL to the rest of the world!I went to the midnight showing of Watchmen, and this was here in berkeley and naturally the packed theater comprised entirely of college students. I was surprised when people cheered at the Star Trek title when it came up on screen.
I saw Watchmen last night, when the Trek trailer started (Fuck yeah, first time in UK theatres we have the trailer.) everyone was oblivious to waht it was, i heard people talking; "whats this?" "Whos he" "Wooah" etc. Obviously, a majority didnt know the name James T. Kirk, or what the Enterprise looked like.
So, when the Star Trek type face appeared...
Silence.
Brilliant, they didnt see that coming. A kick ass trailer, action, sex, battles, bikes, chutes and... Star Trek.
The couple behind us even went "what?"
Its getting through, really is.
WOO-HOO! we may ''just'' have another convert to the TREK side!I would expect Zachary Quinto to say what he said about the movie. However, my daughter just came back with her boyfriend from a Watchmen matinee. She mentioned that she saw the Trailer and both she and her boyfriend thought it really cool. She said that she'd go with me to see the movie.
Fingers, Toes, Hair, Eyes, Tounge, and ''other'' things crossed!I hope JJs film will act as a gateway drug, if you will, and have a new generation of fans renting Trek boxsets, etc. If this film finally makes Trek cool again, I have nothing but thanks for Abrams.
On the other hand, new fans might JUST like this new iteration. Not many people would have gone out and bought Mission Impossible boxsets or Get Smart ones, for example.
My 16 y.o brother, never a previous Trekkie, said it looked awesome, and he's seeing it with me. Hopefully, more casuals will be enticed to cinemas by that trailer.
More importantly, lets hope the eventual film delivers on the trailer's promise, and deserves all the potential mainstream approval. Fingers crossed.
