Is Voyager Heavily Underrated?

It is underrated. And I personally treated it that way until I was able to buy all the DVDs and watch them in order straight through. It is just as good as any other series, and has its own unique qualities and charm. I'm glad it exists, and I yearly watch all of it over again, just like all the other shows. :)
This. It's not TNG's 'fault' but its production values are rather clunky now. I still like it though but when I watch Voyager it holds up well. I'm not surprised Voyager topped and featured the most in Netflix most re-watched of all the Treks because frankly it's really easy to re-watch. Oz TV is screening TNG and Voyager straight after. Oh and TOS as well (but middle of the day). Quite interesting to compare.

How are we defining "under rated"?

Like every TV show it has positives and negatives which differ from viewer to viewer. Is it because VOY seems to come in for more criticism than some of the other ST shows?

If you want to compare all the series at once, Heroes & Icons airs TOS, TNG, DS9, VGR, and ENT from 8 p.m. - 1 a.m. Sunday to Friday in airdate order.

I feel like Voyager is too often overlooked.

Voyager is certainly underrated and unfairly maligned.

One thing I really do like is the ensemble nature of the show-every character gets at least a few episodes focused on them. And a few episodes aren't focused on any body but the crew as a whole.

Isn't that true of all Berman era Trek?

Mostly, yeah. I'd say Enterprise is a bit debatable, since there came a point where they seemed to totally ignore the existence of Hoshi and Travis. But they did both have episodes devoted to them, just not all the way through the show.

It really is. Episodes like Scientific Method or Waking Moments are great standalone episodes to cure boredom. Fun/exciting/interesting, well-written 45-minute stories that are easy to enjoy

However, "Scientific Method" has a chilling believability to it that "Waking Moments" completely lacks.

If Voyager topped and featured the most Netflix re-watched of all the Treks, how can it be underrated?

This is the thing, Voyager isn't underrated, but it is criticised more. I feel like even the most ardent fans tend to agree on certain key failings, such as the underutilization of the Maquis, the ship staying in pristine condition, and many characters falling flat. Those are major parts of the show, not isolated problems.

Honestly, considering the quality of writing and lack of focus, I'd say Voyager is overrated. However, that doesn't mean I wouldn't watch it or that I think it's out and out bad. I'd rate DS9 way above Voyager, but I'd still watch both.

This comparison probably isn't going to go over well with Voyager fans, but I kinda consider it like The Big Bang Theory of Star Trek...

Probably because people are discovering it/rediscovering it and watching Endgame over and over because of the epic showdown that it is?

VOY was a great series. At one point I felt like it should have been more like BSG, but now after all these years I’ve changed my mind. Why? Because it’s difficult to re-watch a series that focuses too much on continuing story arcs.

I’m currently watching the last season of House of Cards and I’m getting a headache. I can’t remember what happened in the previous seasons. It’s all too complex.

I think with DS9, they found the right balance. You had bigger plots that played out across one or more seasons, but they we’re simple to remember (Dominion War, Sisko and his bond with the Prophets, …). So you can pick out any episode to watch and you’ll still know what’s going on.

But that’s DS9….

Is VOY underrated? I think it definitely is.

Just to name one reason why it’s a great series: it portrayed strong female role models. Was it necessary to put Jeri Ryan in a catsuit? Of course not. But that’s another debate…

This is what I mean when I call it The Big Bang Theory of Star Trek. I think you’ve kinda pointed out what makes Voyager a pretty subpar show.

I found BSG to be dark and depressing. The new version that is, I actually sort of liked the one in the seventies. Short lived as it was.

I rather liked BSG during its first season. But the further the series went, the less I liked it. It wasn't because it was dark and depressing. I just found the writing increasingly questionable. I especially didn't care for the arc in which many of the colonists were prisoners of the Cylons on some remote planet. That whole arc seemed badly written to me. And later, the number of regular and secondary characters being increasingly exposed as Cylons was becoming rather ridiculous to me.
