Is Twilight more popular than Star Trek?

It seems that every kid I know has the books. What really bothers me, it seems like CreationEnt has more 'cons for Twilight than ST, SG and other scifi shows combined.

To answer your initial question with 12 year old girls, yes. I really think that Twilight is at the height of its popularity. It'll die down eventually.

Well, obviously. It's not even close. "Twilight" is the new hip thing and the MTV Movie Awards was like a tribute to it this year, with it sweeping the awards. "Star Trek" did well at the box office, but "Twilight" has teenage girls screaming over it and chasing the male lead in the street like he's a freaking Beatle or something. The real question is will it remain that way for 40 years like Star Trek? Since it's only based on a few books and movies rather than a classic TV show (which tend to endure more), it is more likely to just be a fad with a time that comes and goes.

It's in its popularity high right now, it'll be the young cool thing for a while, then it will stop being that as the teenage girls going ga-ga over it grow up and nobody will care anymore. Sad, but true, there'e no business like show business.

The new Trek movie really needed more quasi-homosexual emo goth kids who just didn't give a damn about anything... THEN it would have been just as popular as Twilght... unfortunately it would have also been just as shallow and I probably would have shut it off after 10 minutes as well.

I do think it's funny I used to get made fun of in middle school for liking Star Trek but now ever kid thinks they're a vampire... hmmm... we've actually traveled in space, but I've never seen someone transform into a bat yet...

Don't worry, I expect there will be emo teenage vampires in the Trek sequel. Chekhov at least is expendable, possibly Sulu as well. That leaves two spots open on the bridge for the angst-ridden, yet hauntingly beautiful undead.

Yeah, it's pretty awful. I teach High School in an area pretty close to where the last (is there more than one ) Twilight movie was filmed. A group my grade 11 students actually travelled to Vancouver and got a room at the Hotel where the star was rumoured to be staying for the SOLE purpose of stalki...err... trying to meet him.

I'd agree it depends on the market. The kids love it, but most people I know either can't stand it. Some out of seeing/reading it and others out of the annoyance of the hype and nonsense that flows from that.

Kids things always get more hype, how many of us give a shit about Hanna Montanna?

The worst thing is, it's not just squeeling kids who love Twilight. I see older ladies at the local grocery store with Twilight t-shirts, reading the books in the waiting rooms at the doctors etc etc. Who knew the downfall of good taste in society would read so bad !

I honestly dont see the fascination with this movie. I went to see it reluctantly because I was expecting nothing more than the typical teen flick and it seems that I over estimated it. It was absolutley dire one of the worst films I have seen in my life.

I took my fiance thinking it kinda like True Blood, I was wrong. I rather sit and watch Star Trek V for 48 hours straight, then watch that movie again

I think Twilight must skew like 90% female. I've never heard of a male watching/enjoying it. But all the girls seem to like it, of a diverse age group. At least high school musical had the gays fawning over Zac Efron or whatever his name is. Twilight doesn't have any gay following that I'm aware of, even though girls/gays often go together. In this case I don't think it's true.

Twilight is more popular than Trek like Potter is more popular.

Though I do think Trek struggles with the under 16 audience, it seems after that age Trek becomes "ok" because most people rememebr TNG.
