Is Toxic "Star Wars" Fandom Imploding?

Is Toxic "Star Wars" Fandom Imploding?

I don't know why the title of this thread is toxic fandom. I'd definitely say it's toxic media sites, blogs, and members of the studio themselves who are toxic, especially to fans who didn't like the highly polished turd they wanted to shove down everyone's throat, then proceed to call those fans idiots, toxic, misogonyst, bigots, and every other name they could think of. Simply for disagreeing. Rather then address their failings, and just decided to attack anyone who had a legitimate gripe with the movie. So much so that the director of TLJ purged 20,000 tweets from his toxic soap box.
Along with others. Are there toxic fans out there. Sure, they are in every fandom, but to the extent that it is the cause of Solo's failure, the backlash against TLJ, and the utter collapse of Star wars toy merchandise, the bread and butter of all movie franchises that seek to be successful, then no. Its not the toxic fans. Fans have a right to want something from their product. Sell us something we want and we will support it. Sell us something we don't want or like, and then attack us for not wanting it. Now that is a recipe for disaster.. Right now.

They've been throwing in all those ingrediants and it's where we are now. So I don't blame the fans. They are simply consumers. But don't attack me as a fan and a customer, if I'm not happy with the product. Cause that's just stupid business. My local Walmart stores, 3 of which I have frequented, and Target, all have a clearance isle full of new Disney Star Wars action figures and vehicles, some so cheap, and yet still multiples on the shelves. Even the classic line of figures are suffering, not so much in multiples, but you can almost find any one of the characters from the original movies easily.

That says to me..the arrogance and toxicity of those in the media, movie production staff, and the shills who seek to gain favors for favorable reviews and yet also attack the fans, are the reason why those sales are lacking. Used to be you could count on not only the new fans for purchases, but also the older adult fans for collection purposes. There are figures from TFA and Rogue 1 still on the shelves, and those are from the original release, not repackaged reissues.

Now..

They sit on shelves at clearance prices. Hell you couldn't give them away at this point. The fact the classic figures have also a hard time selling out is an indicator that Disney has a serious problem on their hands with their so called Golden Goose.

If they were smart, they would stop these arrogant condescending jerks in media from attacking and antagonizing the fans.
And focus on giving a good product all can enjoy. Instead of targeting a single demographic.
Yes, it's everyone else who is the problem, not the people acting like psychopaths or the ones who constantly try to justify them.

Like fans who have YouTube videos?
Maybe..or just any fan. YouTube doesn't kill a franchise. Neither could Reddit..there are many fans who probably don't even like YouTube. I used to only use it for music while driving. Haven't used a CD player or the radio in like forever. Just plug my phone in and enjoy what I want at the time I want it. Pure freedom. Do I watch reviewers? Sure. Do they infuence my decision about Star wars? No. I have my own mind. I have my own opinions. One segment like YouTube isn't powerful enough to influence a sizeable part of the fandom at large. So there's other factors at play. Namely the behavior of the production staff, media, and toxic fans who are on Happiness patrol come out disgruntled, and you get a book sized post and reply all telling you how horrible you must be for making an opinion known.

That, I find utterly revolting.

Merchandise sales tell all. That's pretty good proof, that there's something rotten that needs to be trashed.

Proof? Like actual figures, not your tales of unsold toys.

What basis is your assertion based on? There's so much proof of toxic hate spewing from blog posts, websites like Forbes, the Mary Sue, Vox, vanity fair, you name it. Twitter tweets, and antagonistic youtubers who attack the fans constantly. I mean, the proof is all there for anyone to see. To attack the consumer for not liking the product..sounds kinda nutty to me.

I feel that toxic fans who harass people need to be called out because it is not acceptable. I don't blame the movie studios for making a movie they didn't like, I blame the delusional people who think that attacking an actress because she was in a movie they didn't like is the right thing to do. You're blaming everyone but the actual problem and treating them as though they're the source of the problem. They aren't, they're reacting to it. It's like blaming the news for publishing an article on a serial killer or their victim for being their target. It's honestly laughable that you don't see how absurd this position is.

I'll take pics next time..if that's what you require. Or just go,on YouTube and look at all the videos saying the same thing.,or better yet. How about news articles that say the same thing I'm saying and seeing. You want proof. Here's an example.,

Shall I find more?

Its not just my anecdotal experience. Don't blame me..I am citing what I see. What's being reported all over the internet. Its true, whether you want to believe it or not.

It's a two way street darling.. You can't make a rational assessment with out looking at both sides of the problem. Your POV seems to assert there's only one villain in all this. I'm simply saying there's another. It takes two. And as far as harrassment. Kelly Marie Tran left Twitter. Never said why. But everyone else lied and said it was from fan hate. Without a,statement from the actress, herself. That rumor gets passed around like it's true. And even the toxic master director himself did the same, and yet no communication from Tran confirming or denying anything. Same too of Ridley the queen of Mary Sue-ism herself.

So with no real proof. The assertion fans are the reason is just laughable. It's not that I can't see anything. I'm perfectly wide eyed and clear. However, some people are so blinded by ideology, they can't see anything else. All they see is colored by some convoluted spiraling nonsense of philosophical ideological garbage, and thus turn and twist and contort everything so it can fit into that tiny close minded box.

I don’t know what’s more insulting your condescension or now trying to turn this into a conspiracy against the “real fans”. Maybe you should take your own advice, because there is someone blinded by idealogy and it isn’t me.

There’s a line being not liking something and taking out your anger at innocent people. I don’t like The Expanse, but I don’t harass the cast, obsess with the crew or celebrate when it doesn’t do well. Treating their reaction as normal is justifying it, you’re justifying harassment because of a fucking movie. If you honestly think that’s something to agree with there is something deeply troubled in you.

If you don’t like a movie, it just wasn’t good to you. It’s an entirely subjective experience. It shouldn’t ruin your life and drive you towards awful acts. That’s not the sign of a healthy reaction to anything. We don’t defend road rage, why defend this?

Well I've read the comments and those who are critiquing the movie are basically just sharing their reaction to the movie. Most people don't want the makers to suffer but are just disillusioned. Frankly I would suggest most fans don't know who the behind the scenes people are.

Then those aren't the ones being called toxic, so I question why you would even bring them up unless you're trying to conflate the two. It's been crystal clear since the beginning who is being called toxic and who isn't.
