Is Titan-A a refit of original Titan?

Regardless at the end of the day, it doesn't matter if the Titan is a refit or not.
I know, Tale old as time, but still irritating that they have to do gymnastics to prove there point, when they generally didn't have to.

Would have taken less material to fix the Luna Titan. and doesn't seem like much more than what the Enterprise E went through in Nemisis. From what I see.. did they let Deanna drive again??

damn the original Titan looks like its been through the ringer. Would love to know what the hell caused that much damage to it.

Albany-class cruiser - Wikipedia

What about the Albany class guided missle cruisers?

Two ships of the WWII era Baltimore-class (Baltimore and Chicago) and one of the Oregon-class (Albany) were completely gutted and rebuilt from the keel up, replacing their oil-fired boilers with nuclear power, receiving new penant numbers and a new class designation.

Those ships are completely different both externally and internally to the point where they don't even look like their original design.

Except for the nuclear power, that is a great real world example. They didn't receive nuclear power.

But with the Albany, they were stripped of there superstructure, and replaced with a new superstructure and weapons, but the original hull wasn't replaced, just the bits above the waterline, maybe internals in the hull, but the "Outer Hull" wasn't changed. So that does qualify as a refit, similar to the Connie.

The coils look the same in that image.
both oval.. ish, Luna seems wider, and by the time you get to the squared rear parts of the Stargazer nacelles, you have a problem. I know.. doesn't matter.. :)

How do we know that at the end of its service life, Riker's Titan looked like we're familiar with? Is it possible that by its retirement, it had been retrofitted with newer nacelles that then got recycled onto the new Titan? And given their roughly similar general shapes, what's the possibility that the secondary hull was swapped and modded to fit the new Titan?

That was not what Matalas and Blass have implied.

Was going to post this pic. I think it's entirely plausible that the damage to the Titan was much more EXTENSIVE than what's depicted here.

The Enterprise F is being decommissioned early but from the exterior it looks totally fine.

Something similar may be going on with the Titan.

If they wanted a Riker connection, could have just added Christine Vale, Rikers #1 in the books.
Have her in command of the USS Connie 3 and leave the Luna Titan to do.. whatever its doing. And have Seven as her #1. Still give Christine some of Shaw's abrasiveness, where she likes Riker just fine, but doesn't like being hoodwinked like Shaw was.

Then you'd have your Neo Connie, and alot less grief from the fans.. ( HA!)

She would have meant nothing to most fans.
The Titan wasn't shown in any live action either ( I know LD), but you did say "Average" How many fans have read the books vs watched LD? Coming back for his old "Refit/recycled" ship, or getting help from an old freind. And added bonus adding another female captain to the ranks.

I reckon there'll be more people familiar with the design of the Luna Class Titan than who'd be able to tell you who Christine Vale is. A combination of LD, STO and illustrations from the Titan book series.

I think there is no doubt after episode S03 E04 (No win scenario) when captain Shaw said "despite the refit, this is a 20-year-old ship".

So it is old Luna class Titan just refited to Neo-Constitution class Titan-A. It's 100% canon now. You can close this topic.

so how long has Shaw really been in command then? Is he the Pike to Riker's April? being the second one to command the ship? i mean we don't know when Riker left the Titan but even if he left after Kestra was born In the late 2380s/early 2390s to move to nepenthe, Shaw could've been in command right after.

I guess it's possible they built a completely new empty hull and then moved all the inside stuff from the old one to the new one. Essentially ship organ transplantation :D

That's not what he said. He said the components of the nacelle shields were 20 years old. That's not anywhere near saying the entire ship is 20 years old.
