Is this Jennifer Lien?

Well I liked the Kes character, and would have preferred Kim get the boot if one had to go, but as someone else said Star Trek owes nothing to Lien. It's a business and they made a business decision. They're in it to entertain the masses and make money. By bringing in Seven they were hoping the ratings would go up, which they did, and ensured the show would go on.

That being said Lien has a ready cash cow in the convention circuit if she would avail herself of it. Show up, smile, sign some autographs, and make easy money.

If I may be a know it all, the ratings went up for one story (Scorpion I + II). Then resumed the decline the show had been experiencing since season one. The argument then became that Jeri "slowed" the decline in ratings, by gaining new viewers only slightly slower than the old audience was leaving.

Obviously that "business decision" wasn't a good one:

Because she won't do conventions.

Is there a short/simple answer as to why she won't do them?

Google says that she retired to have children, but Jennifer did attend a con in 2010.

My comment was basically a kneejerk reaction to claims that she doesn't have the money to sort out all this legal stuff. Maybe she finds San Diago unpleasant? Although you'd think that as her children do get older that they would demand VIP passes to see all the new PLaystation games 4 months early.

Hmmm. I was just thinking about James Doohan in the first Trekkies documentary describing the love that pours out towards the actors and how overwhelming and positive the experience is attending these 'Cons... I just can't see how *any* principal actors on any series would avoid them? What's the downside?

If the conventions are abundant in love, and they pay you money/fare for getting there, you get love *and* money. If you are broke or despondent wouldn't both/either be nurtured from attending? Maybe I'm reading too much into this. I can see why she'd feel abandoned from Trek - but plenty of the 'let go' actors do appearances... it sounds like a winning scenario for fired actors. It's not like the fans would love them any less for being dropped from the main cast, if anything, much more.

Or maybe she just wants to be left alone.

*edit* That chart... 13 million people watched Caretaker?? Incredible!

The U.S. Is a massive country. Looking at the address on street view, it's not the most expensive looking of areas, plus it's in the middle of nowhere. (Why leave LA and go there?). I don't think this is her. Statistically, there will be a few Jennifer Ann Lien. A quick google search for " Jennifer ann lien -voyager -trek" show's this.

I met her at a convention once and she was quiets down came across as shy and nice.

You may just make Lynx's day.

Factor in the age and the previous mugshot and yeah...it's her.

And that was shortly lived for Lynx. Sadly hun, I agree.

Because she's no longer the petite pixie of every fanboys' dreams and doesn't want to deal with the disbelief she sees in everyone's face when they meet her for an autograph.

She got chunky way before any of her other problems. I think the occasionally fat joke is fair game.

All that food Neelix made her eat?

Thanks for illustrating my point made above.

In a crowd of 500 or 5000, even 10% of people making disparaging comments about you can turn you away. I recall traveling 200 miles to go to my 10th year High School reunion and being surprised at the number of locals who didn't show up. When I pressed a friend about one absence, the reason she didn't come was merely because of her weight.

Add to that the eternal questions about "what are you doing now", "why aren't you acting" makes a convention as exciting as Thanksgiving dinner with all the relatives when you aren't married, and have no job prospects.

I once wrote an epic poem about this topic. This eternal topic.

It was like super epic.

You are so weird. ;)

I love it.

Good lord Lynx, let it go.

I'm not ready for that yet, my friend.

I've looked at that street view too and I don't find it so terrible, observe that the pictures are taken on a cold cloudy fall day, probably November. It would have looked better in sunlight.

The nature is beautiful (reminds me of the place where I live) with small houses. OK, not the kind of place you expect a movie star to live in but not that bad.

I must admit that I also used street view to search for a previous address in Hesperia CA some years ago and that place was really a dump which scared the s**t out of me, compared with that, the place in Harriman is a step up.

Not to mention that I personally rather would live in Tennessee than in the LA area. Too much crap going on there, especially in the movie and music business.

However, her problems with the law on those two occasions is a bad sign that something isn't right.

It really makes me sad. :weep:

Honestly, I was aware of the first incident in 2012. It has been debated on this forum. The recent incident was new for me.

I agree. I can understand why she won't do conventions now. As if it wasn't enough with the same old questions about the firing from Voyager, now she would have to answer to questions like "Why were you arrested?"

Regarding why Lien might want to avoid conventions...

I just wanted to point out that some people really, really don't like parties or big gatherings of people. For these people a convention would be like a giant party where everybody wants to ask you questions about your life and you've nowhere to run.

Oh good, I'm not the only one who thought Juggernaut sucked.

Voyager normally aired on a Wednesday.

Some idiot thought, Hey lets air a brand new episode for no reason, without telling anyone or advertising it correctly on a Monday as a special treat.

That's the story of Juggernaut.
