Is this Jennifer Lien?

^^
I can't remember her being "chunky" before she was kicked out from Voyager.

Maybe the problems started there and then?

I mean, if someone is kicked out after three years of good work for not being "sexy" enough for what is supposed to be a SF-series, then that person might react by simply don't care about the looks or what that person is eating.

I think that might be giving the show just a little too much responsibility for Lien's life than the woman herself. We've all been fired (well I have) and you don't spend your life saying "that's where my problems started" or at least, you shouldn't.

Was she fired for not being sexy enough? Not sure about that either. Would the writers create a character who's an innocent child-like alien with a three year life-span then complain that the actress isn't making the character sexy enough?

They may have wanted the new character (Seven) to be sexy but that doesn't mean that's why they got rid of Lien.

Braga wanted a boy drone originally before network interference.

How sexy would they have cast a male Seven of Nine?

Now imagine if they'd gone the other way, and cast someone like Robert Costanzo (who is probably a proper sweet heart in real life) who'd go the full "I'm walking here" New York on the cast of Voyager when ever they expected him to Marysue an adventure with his moobs.

Well that's unfortunate for Jennifer. Wow.
Ramming a cop car and resisting arrest gets you a high jail bond. Money she apparently doesn't have.

Because she won't do conventions.

Jennifer if she does it right, can cowboy up and make 15 grand over the course of a weekend, of mostly undeclared income, if she's willing to have several thousand nerds ask her "why did you really leave Voyager?"

Ironically if she can't make bail, she can't quickly earn the money to make bail.

Well, I was fired once too. For econmical reasons. But my response was a bit different. I told the greedy idiots in charge where they could stuff their beloved money and where to go. I did have a nasty temper at that time.

When that company folded some years later, you surely know who was celebrating that day. ;)

As for Lien's current trouble, I don't and I won't defend her behavior in any way. Not in this case and not in the incident from 2012. But instead of making fun of her, I try to figure out that there can be a reason why things have turned out the way they are.

As for the people in charge, they did hire Ryan (Seven) because they wanted a "sexy babe" in the series. The plan was to fire Wang (Kim) but he was spared because a silly magazine had him on a "50 most handsome" list.

So Lien was obviously fired for not being sexy enough and not being handsome enough. For a shy person with low self-esteem, that can be devastating.

48 people are viewing the Voyager forum. I think this thread gave us some attention here in the cyber delta quadrant.

One thing that really annoys me is that there are three, maybe four people from my past (no one on the Trek BBS forums, mind you) who are probably celebrating when these news are reaching them. I wouldn't have wished them that luck.

Very sad to see her in this trouble. I hope she gets all the help she needs.

It was a mistake to write Kes out of the series. With her psychic powers and limited lifespan there were possibilities for many storylines. She'd had a lot of character development over her 3 seasons - a lot more than the likes of Kim and Chakotay. She had frienships with Tuvok, The Doctor, Paris and Janeway which were nice.

Jokes like that are never "fair game." Nobody deserves to be made fun of.

Does that include Caitlyn Jenner and Kate Mulgrew in the thread bombs thread who you desperately tried to get everyone to look at in the how is Janeway sexy thread?

She was not fired for those reasons. She was fired because the character just didn't go anywhere. The character that was brought in to replace her was made sexy as an after thought (because what harm can it do?) If people were being fired for not being sexy then half the cast would have been dropped.

Star Trek does not owe Lien anything.

If I could travel the world, making a decent living by turning up at conventions and saying "live long and prosper" to a group of spotty teenagers, dribbling at the mouth, I'd bite your hand off.

Because she won't do conventions.

Is there a short/simple answer as to why she won't do them?

Google says that she retired to have children, but Jennifer did attend a con in 2010.

My comment was basically a kneejerk reaction to claims that she doesn't have the money to sort out all this legal stuff. Maybe she finds San Diago unpleasant? Although you'd think that as her children do get older that they would demand VIP passes to see all the new PLaystation games 4 months early.

I remember being devastated when I watched "The Gift." because I didn't read any promo or "Next Wednesday on STV," stupid ads.

Her character was dull but that's absurd she had to be. instead of hoarding these characters to themselves they could have reached out to imaginative , creative people for help on ideas. (I know-they just don't want to pay people)

Wang was going to be fired because he was constantly late to set and often couldn't remember his lines.

They'd %99 sorted out the paperwork to fire Wang and hire Jeri.

It was all sorted.

Then this happened.

http://www.amiannoying.com/(S(o4won55ooe3cbmt3wp2ljchk))/collection.aspx?collection=57

Garret was declared the 36th sexiest human being on the planet by People Magazine.

Jeri was coming, and someone had to be fired to make way for her arrival. There was nothing they could do about it. The Network wouldn't let them fire Wang, so they moved on to the next least useful character.

Kim was not shit.

Wang was shit. (Wang was a kid with money for the first time in his life and acted irresponsibly. It happens.)

One line if thinking is that if Wang had been on time, and remembered his lines, not always been hung over, or bringing his revolving door of women on the set, that there would have been no talk about replacing Kim, which means that they wouldn't have tapped Jeri, and Jennifer wouldn't have been fired.

The beginning of the firings, that "happened and did not happen" started because an actor was being a jerk on set, not because his character was unwritable.

Politics.

I am rewatching VOY right now, I'm in season 2. I am counting down the minutes until she's gone.

I'm rewatching Voyager too. I'm in season 3 and my Voyager watching will as usual end with "Worst Case Scenario", a perfect final episode of a great series.

I have "Nemesis" from the Voyager spin-off series on an old VHS-tape but I'm not sure if I'll watch it this time.

I think that it's a lame excuse from those in charge. If the character "didn't go anywhere", then how could they come up with good stories about that character up to the last possible minutes of season 3? Why did they lose their ability to write for the character exactly between season 3 and 4 and hw come Kes had more and better episodes in season 3 than Kim and Neelix?

Not to mention that Jeri Taylor could come up with at least one good kes story after Kes was gone (the one in the book "Pathways".

We also had that "glorious moment in TV history" when Braga and his servants Bryan Fuller and Michael Taylor came up with that horrible, insulting episode in season 6. But then it was all about insulting the fans of a Star Trek character. Maybe it's inspiring to do evil thngs?

Star Trek doesn't owe anything to anyone.

But those in charge of Voyager owe Jennifer Lien an apology for firing her and they, together with Fuller And M. Taylor owe the fans of the character Kes an apology for spitting in the faces of those fans.

Star Trek doesn't owe anything to anyone.

This is literally the only thing you have ever mustered the courage to type on this message board that I've seen that has been anywhere near worth reading.
