Is there anyone who doesn't like Seven??

I thought she was interesting in season 4 because she was trying to gain her humanity back but from 5 on she seemed to be the center of the show and yea it kind of ticked me off a little. I know the show was run by men and Jeri Ryan is hot supposedly and that's why it happend.

I hated her character simply on principle when she was introduced. It was insulting that TPTB basically said to us males that they assumed attaching some breasts to the show would make us watch more Voyager - Star Trek is supposed to be better than that.

Fortunately, Seven of Nine became quite possibly the show's most compelling and well developed character. I liked that she was constantly railing against Janeway, and more often than not, I would be on Seven's side.

After the Marquis had settled into Voyager they needed some new conflict and Seven was perfect. Poor Chakotay didn't get much to do after though. It was a good job Seven defied Janeway in Prey, maybe Janeway was morally right but what good are morals if they get you and 150 crew members killed.


I don't see how anyone could dislike Seven after watching all of Voyager. Seven did get a lot more episodes than other characters towards the end but tbh I'd rather watch a Seven of Nine episode than a Harry Kim episode any day, I think they were just playing to their strengths.

This. Well, I mean, I'm not male, but I was still pretty upset.

Also, while the show was on the air, I didn't like Seven much at all. She ate up too much screentime, and I thought her and Janeway fighting every two seconds got a little old.

Nowadays, I'm okay with her. I still think she ate up too much screentime, but she was a strong and interesting character in the end. And yes, she was very beautiful! But she was prettier in normal clothes, IMO, not the silly catsuit.

I am on the almost exact opposite of you guys. lol. I found her interesting in the beginning but as the show went on she just wasn't interesting at all to me. I understand that Voyager needed some different conflict but like froot said, her and janeway scrimiging like a teenager that got out of hand was just a little old.

Well, I think that Seven becoming less interesting was the show itself just becoming less interesting. Regardless of whether you liked Voyager or not, the final season of Voyager was REALLY boring and tired. Like TNG, they probably could have wrapped up at the end of season 6.

I thought she was interesting in the beginning even if she did get the lion's share of the screen time. Unfortunately they turned her into a Mary Sue in Season 7 which ruined the character for me.

7 is my all time favorite Trek character. I love her. One thing that contributed to her awesomeness was that she had an interesting relationships with several of the crew. Sometime a character only lights up when paired in cahoots or conflict with one other character. 7 and the Doctor were gold together, comedy, pathos, character development for both of them. 7 and Janeway were a completely different relationship which fleshed out more of 7's character. If 7 had been less developed they would have showcased her cat fighting with Belanna and that would have been it, but she brought out the personalities of everyone she interacted with. 7's damaged humanity and Borg identity inspired all kinds of responses from the crew: fear (Harry), maternal instinct (Janeway), desire for approval from one so advanced (Doctor), instinct to rescue (Janeway, Doctor), hope for friendship (Doctor), jealousy and feeling challenged (Belanna), scared half to death lust (lots of people).. She was a wonderful asset to the show.

Made me think of the time Worf defied Picard when he asked him to help save the Romulan.

Now that we know 8472 can assume human form and tried to infiltrate Starfleet, and that they could be "reasonable" and dialogue with Janeway et al, one wonders if Seven's refusal to help that member of the species actually prolonged their stay in the DQ.

Had they safely returned that being to its home, and impressed the local government, perhaps they would have been rewarded with a short cut to the Alpha quadrant.

I liked Seven in season 6. In seasons 4 and 5, her need to defy Janeway week-after-week started to grate on me. In season 7, Seven was suddenly way too well adjusted. So, I liked her in season 6.

I've wondered about that too. Also, that scene in "Prey" seemed more designed to appeal to the teenagers watching the show (look, Seven is rebelling!) rather than advance the story. It seemed forced to me.

I liked her character in Season 4, but beyond that she got on my nerves. She just struck me as a Grade A whiner, and her speeches to Janeway about "When you severed me from the collective..." and the like; just made me want to knock her lights out.

I'm sorry, but I can't stand any episode which deals with her humanity. More often than not it makes me cringe. I found her Borg personality (as seen in Season 4) to be far more interesting.

I liked Seven for the concept and Jeri's brilliant acting in some episodes, but I just hated the cat suit thing she had to wear. Something more towards Kes's outfits would have been better. No one on a ship manned with the majority of men, would have had hell to pay with someone walking round like that. They never really did handle the unwanted attention side of it all.

I also hated the Chakotay Seven relationship thrown in at the last moment. They were so incompatible. It was if the screen writers were trying to bring everything in at the last minute.

Its a shame they didnt write Jeri some more comedic scenes, as she was brilliant in those.

I liked the character and thought Jeri Ryan did a wonderful job in portraying her. However, I thought her character was the most unevenly developed of all (much worse than Janeway).

I guess it was just too easy to use her as a plot device as time went on, and that wasn't a good thing. Some weeks she would be a walking repository of Borg data, knowing the designations of all species and having "special" Borg knowledge, while other weeks she seemed to be clueless (the most glaring being her lack of information about the subspace hubs that arrive in "Endgame"). She would make strides as a human only to become completely Borgified the next episode or two. Finally, Ryan always delivered her lines as if she were angry or irritated with everyone around her. That got to be a bit much.

I regret most that they assassinated her character in "Endgame" just for a "romantic" B plot that sucked. Seven deserved better than that.

TOS is full of half naked women in nearly every other episode just dripping to give it up to Kirk. TOS introduced Orion "slave" girls, women to be bought & sold for a man sexual pleasure. Gene Roddenbrry continued that trend into TNG with Troi's plundging neck line to show cleavage and a bodysuit that gave her cameltoe. Lets not forget "Angel One" or "The Naked Now", full of barely clothed men & women. Seven of Nine is a throwback to the classic days of Trek. Roddenberry went out of his way to make sexuality a selling point for Star Trek. Folks are fooling themselves thinking Trek is something highbrow.

Of course, the TOS miniskirt, at the time, was a sign of women's lib. Still, it was sexual, and that was the point.

There's no doubt Seven/Jeri was brought in to sell a little sex and bring up the ratings, but Jeri did a great acting job on this.

When Kes was tossed and they were throwing in 7o9, my first reaction when I saw a picture of her in her "Outfit" was "Well... ratings must not be going very well, they're hauling out the borg-boob card."

I'm not trying to take her contributions to the show or her acting down a notch or three, but come on.... nobody else was wearing an outfit like she was..... granted Kes started wearing something similar around the time she left the show, but that to me only showed where the show was heading.

One of the things I didn't care much for with Voyager was how as others mentioned, they only focused on a select few characters to unload development for..... The Doctor, Seven of Nine, Tom & B'Elanna.

I don't count Janeway, since character development is a given for all Star Trek Captains.

I didn't mind the conflict between Janeway and Seven, and I kinda figured it'd be an on-going thing through the series, but what I didn't get was that Seven was so confrontational compared to say Hugh in TNG. Hugh knew even less on what the heck was going on, yet he seemed to go with the flow of things...... meanwhile, Seven seemed to punch everybody in the face along her path towards humanity (metaphorically speaking of course)

I remember people in the DS9 section complaining about Kira being angry, hateful and violent all the time..... yet Seven of Nine seemed to take the worst of Kira, mix it with some Data and sprinkle a bit of Rebellious Thomas Riker on top for good measure.

I must admit that beyond the teenaged boy appeal of Seven's looks, her character did bring some needed story development to the show and Ryan did a decent job with the character.... but she is not my favorite character on the show.

To be honest, I don't know who my favorite Voyager character is.

I didn't mind her. she grew on me as the seasons progressed. And Jeri did a fantastic job taking on the role of a confused individual.
It was interesting watching her develop and the friendships she created.

Does this mean then if jeri was introduced in to VOY the show would have being cancelled?
