Is there an "official" former members inquiry topic?

My husband retires in 2021. Not sure if I'd be here beyond that. Maybe. If the BBS is still here. It very well may not be.

I took over running the place in 2004. Thirteen years!
Wait...so that's why I'm graying. :P
No. If it was that, you'd not be gray but some shade 3 quantum leaps beyond white. Sorta ultra-white.
Or bald...

2021 sounds very likely but I wouldn't vouch for this board lasting another 20 years. I would vouch, however, for several spinoffs like TerranBBS or Wordforge, to name only two. These are frequented by rather small but close-knit groups of friends (mostly even RL friends) who use the boards as a means of staying in touch. Like Facebook plus privacy minus ads/viruses/malware/spyware/NSA etc.

When your hubby retires, how about a trip to Bavaria? It'd be fun to meet IRL after all those years. I could pull a few threads and show you the stuff tourists don't normally get to see (protected core zone of National Park, rare species, archeological sites, genuine Bavarian cuisine etc.). Usually, people just have a look at Neuschwanstein and Munich - that's like coming to the US and only visiting Disneyland.

So . . . has anyone heard from our Italian friend Iguana Tonante? And what ever happened to Alidar Jarok, our resident legal eagle? I assume he's now a full-time practicing attorney and perhaps doesn't have the time to hang out with geeks.

Appreciate this is slightly OT, but Facebook are not infecting people with malware/viruses/spyware. You are far far far more likely to get a virus or malware off of a poorly maintained vBulletin/XenForo/Wordpress install that gets infected by a XSS worm than going to a large site used by billions of people daily with a huge and competent cybersecurity team.

As for the Ads/NSA bit... can't speak to that

Although I seriously doubt the NSA is interested in anything posted on TrekBBS, Wordforge, Terran, or anything else that is just a bunch of people chatting socially with one another. Although I should point out that since Terran (as linked in your signature) is not https, anyone and their dog in the chain from you to the server can see all your traffic including passwords and private messages (so anyone else on the same Wifi network as you, your ISP, Internet backbone providers, their ISP, their hosting company), whereas TBBS (and Facebook, of course) is now HTTPS :techman:

Goodness, I totally forgot about him! How embarassing! We were Captains together iirc. Last thing I heard of him - but that was almost 2 years ago - was that his job kept him extremely busy. And if my memory serves me correctly I think he has at least 1 kid which is another factor that keeps people offline quite frequently.

Former staff that stick in my head fondly include SpacemanSpiff and where'sSaavik?. They seem to have passed beyond the rim. Civilians include StarscreamX/CaptainWacky (had a mention of him already on one of these threads), BlazerBoy, PraetorX, Mogh. Some other notables... Dennis Bailey, a poster who went by the name Robert Loggia but wasn't the real one). So many names... I'm sure I missed a bunch!

RobertLoggia aka Malcolm i still think pops in occasionally at LoNAF (YES that is still around! Deader then disco 99% of the time... but I guess partsking has the domain name on automatic renewal!). That boy lead s crazy life

Is The Lonesome Ensign aka Teelie still around? And what about Lightening? And has anyone been in contact with Stastny after she took on that job in a hospital around 2003?
And since avatar creators were mentioned - what became of Aurian? And of CaptainNoHair and Dohlman and The Matrix Man aka tmm3k?

Well, Stastny is still hiding in dark hospital corners most of the day. I’m a cardiologist. I also have 2 kids now who are actually pretty grown up (17 ans 14 ). Time flies…
I don’t drop by very often. Not sure what reminded me of this place and made me nostalgic…
How’s everyone???

Hello to those of you who remember talking with me on the BBS.

There are a lot of familiar names mentioned in this thread and it's brought back a lot of fond memories, especially of the busy 1999-2008(-ish) era. I haven't posted on TrekBBS for probably about 10 years, I'd guess. My life is very full with other things (good things, and long may they continue, touch wood!) these days and while I still love Star Trek (Strange New Worlds is the best series since TNG/DS9!!), discussing it online isn't something I feel the urge to do.

But once every year or so, I clear out my old bookmarks. Seeing the TrekBBS link, I often end up browsing here for ten minutes or so. And somehow, that's enough for me to never quite delete the bookmark...!

Today was one of those days, and given that I've posted elsewhere, I feel obliged to say hello here in here too, especially as I can see my name mentioned in this thread. The glory days of internet forums is long gone, but those of us who had the privilege of enjoying them in their peak can remember a simpler, more innocent & naive, less commercialised, and perhaps more patient and tolerant, internet. TrekBBS was, for a while, my home on that internet.

It isn't anymore, but I'm sure anyone who's ever driven past an old home of theirs in real life, will understand the nostalgia and warm feelings I still get when seeing that link in my bookmarks.

Live Long and Prosper. And even more importantly, keep having fun! :D :techman:

P.S. I just noticed my old Misc mod post is still stickied! Goodness, it must be very out of date now!! Do feel free to unsticky it if it is; I won't take offence! :D

Good to see you Holdfast! I can’t recall if you were still active when I changed my user name, but I used to be TheSeeker. You warned me once but were kind enough to reverse it when we had a chat via PM. Good times. :)
