If you were living in that Star Trek universe and had a chance to join Starfleet would have during the Dominon War? I am not sure if it is ever stated how many Starfleet lost, but do you think they had to implement the Draft? And if they didn't, would you have let your kid join during that time of war?

Me? I don't know. I would have had no problem with joining in Kirk's time, or my child. But the Dominion War was a very tough war. Not sure if I would have wanted my nineteen year old to go into that war. Would like to see some original stories, books, about average JOE Q troop coming home from that war. Along the lines of what happened with NOG, but more serious...

But to join when Kirk's generation was around? Yeah..that would have been more safe, but maybe I am too naive. They had their rough times too I assume..

In TOS times or before, yes. Not because of war or no war, but because space travel seemed more of a challenge, then. I'd love to serve on an Earth ship during the Romulan War.

I'd probably join up if I was single. But...I'm an R.N. and , for Medical Personnel on Trek, things seem to be alot easier. Not necessarily in terms of danger...but in terms of duty. They always know what to do. Treat the sick, injured, ease the suffering. Save lives and improve the conditions.
That kind of clarity is freeing.

Sure would I have joined, especially in the Dominion War time. Consider this: I'd rather rfight hordes upon hordes of rabid Jem'Hadar instead of the silly energy being of the week.

I actually thought that was funny blaxxar!!! You are growing on me!

More exploration than war but with a reality check. Times change and war may become part of the landscape. I'm more officer than crewman though and probably more use at Starfleet HQ or as a Federation ambassador then doing a Kirk.

I would so totally join Starfleet. But before some ass comes in here and says "If you haven't joined the military, then you probably wouldn't join Starfleet" can it. We're not interested in your cynicism.

I'd probably be a privateer with a small ship, a space trucker if you will . . . or maybe even a maquis member (in principle, definitely not the terrorist side of the maquis)

Yeah I'd sign up. Don't know whether I'd want to serve on a vessel out in the back of beyond, but I'd be happy enough to work on a starbase or in a planet-side support capacity (somebody has to repair/supply all those starships after all.....).

I would have joined in TNG/DS9 era because I would have honestly felt like the people I cared about were in danger. In TOS time? I would have been an artist or something and lived off of society.

Personally, I would get annoyed with their goody-two-shoe antics. Half the time I'm like :"Just shoot the :censored: alien and get it over with!". Starfleet is just too diplomatic and preachy for me. Everyone acts so uber-perfect like they're freakin saints. Starfleet just ain't for me.
