Is Star Trek 12 going to be a "rush job"?

Or how about putting a new crew on the Enterprise NCC-1701-P in the 31st century commanded by the love grandchild of Worf and Riker, learning to live together and coexist with the evil crab people who wear tu-tus and speak Esperanto, looking to conquer the galaxy by singing Slim Whitman tunes until the Martians' heads explode, until Kirk's bare chest comes back to life and kicks them in the kneecaps.

I have yet to hear a better idea.

Damn straight!

I refer to my own sig line and Gene Roddenberry's own words.

Word. My favorite bad ideas are the ones where the poster thinks that a mass audience would clamor for a series about Klingons or Romulans or [insert favorite species here]. Sure thing - the real reason Enterprise failed was that it really needed to be a series about stereotyped warriors with latex foreheads... Audiences totally connect with that...

What I find interesting about those fan ideas is that they almost always go into great detail about the setting for their new Trek movie or series - aboard a Section 31 stealth vessel, or in a post-Federation 26th century, etc - but spend little or no time proposing actual stories.

It's slang for "more successful and better regarded than the last one, which was well-received and made a metric buttload of money."

Given that it took them almost 3.5 years from conception to reality regarding XI, I wonder how long this'll take given they haven't finished the first draft yet!

Well, XI was slightly different since they were basically starting from scratch. However, I believe the final draft of XI was done in mid summer of 2007 with the release date of Christmas 2008 in mind. I don't know if it's going to make it to the June deadline though. The advantage of the extra time that Paramount bought for XI when they moved the release date was largely in marketing. Personally, I would be okay with a late summer or winter release for XI next year.

In other news, I'm considering posting a thread on this Rush forum that I'm apart of and titling it "Is the next Rush album going to be a 'Star Trek job'?" Confusion will no doubt ensue.
