Is Spock's reputation damaged? (spoilers)

Since I gave a spoiler warning, I won't block this out.

I haven't seen the film yet, but I understand it's older Spock who gives Kirk the idea to annoy younger Spock into exploding and thus being relieved of command.

Right?

So...

Has Spock just ruined his own life?

Is it now part of his permanent record that at a crucial moment when his Captain was down and he was now acting Captain of the Enterprise, he, an emotionally controlled Vulcan, totally lost it and tried to beat up another member of Starfleet?

Wouldn't this tend to affect his service record for years to come?

Is there a chance that the bridge crew will just keep it amongst themselves? Seems unlikely, since that's the only way Kirk got in command of the ship, and obviously Starfleet is well aware of THAT end of things.

Those of you that've seen the film-
Is there something I don't know yet, or is this a little wrinkle that the writers failed to take into consideration?

Spoilers Below

Considering they succeed at the end, that moment is kind of forgotten by everyone, and excused since Spock had just lost his mother, they understand his anger.

Well, one might assume that this, shall we say, liability is what made Starfleet decide that Kirk is in fact more qualified to be Captain of the Enterprise while Spock is better suited to be second-in-command under him...

No i don't think so. Starfleet doesn't want unfeeling automatons for officers (e.g. how the war game was resolved in 'the ultimate computer'). This will go down in Spock's record sure, but more likely it enhances his chances rather than the opposite for command i would say as added to that was his pragmatic admission of his unfitness to command at that point for the good of the crew showing that he is aware of this aspect of himself and also doesn't let it compromise others around him.

I would be proud to be in the crew of such a person.

Its much better than an officer who would just try to bluff his way through all the time for ego or would disregard or ignore the power his feelings have to impair judgement just for the sake of his record.

Spock gets to mercilessly shag Uhura in the Ponn Farr Session From Altamont, probably done to old Stones tunes.

Please. He's living the life of Wayne Newton.

I have NO idea what any of that means or if even part of it is a joke.

Don't DO that! I told you I haven't been yet. :p
