Is SeaQuest DSV worth getting on Blu-ray?

Ah! I have fond memories of watching the first season of this show back when it aired (around the time DS9 began?). I never saw the subsequent seasons, as I think they were shown at some obscure time here in the UK, and I hear they were rather iffy, with constant “re-tooling” and executive meddling. Who knows, maybe I’ll try it again some day. Not really been on my radar I guess. It seems to be largely forgotten which is a shame.

DS9 premiered mid-season in 1993. SeaQuest premiered in the fall of 1993, so it ran parallel to DS9 S2-4.

Season 1 for me is mostly good, except for Charlton Heston's guest appearance in "Abalon." That was truly an awful, nonsensical episode that was the nadir of the season.

After that, what season 2 and 3 are y'all talking about? That never happened. ;)

Season 1 is good fun. I'd rate it higher than TNG. Dr. Ballard's presentations at the end were very fun too. The season has a good mix of characters. Interesting guest characters too.

Season 2 is pretty mixed. The highs are there but less frequent. Some odd character choices mixed with interesting sci-fi ideas.

Season 3 is a very different animal. Think like Stargate SG-1 Season 8 or 9 different compared to previous seasons. I still enjoy it but think it was unsatisfying.

Thank you for an honest season-by-season review. It seems the general consensus is S1 is the best, S2 is sci-fi weirdness, and S3 was why? Does that sum it up? I liked the S1 episodes I did see, but I couldn't stand the guy at the end. I'm thinking, dude, I'm not 12.

Season 3 has a lot more political intrigue, and a different captain, so there is a lot more tension and conflict. Think Picard vs. Jellico if Jellico sticks with the ship and Picard left.

I don't like all of it, but it definitely has some good intrigue. Plus, it's Michael Ironside. It's worth a watch for his expressions and general irritable demeanor.

I am so glad Jellico bounced out after 2 episodes.

I think when this show first aired my roommates and I kind of chuckled and called it TNG underwater. Which it was. First season was tolerable. Second season got dumb. Turd season got dumber than dumb.

If the penisrock was still allowed, rest assured -- there'd also be a penisrock there...
"We ain't found SHIT!"

I never understood why people wouldn't like him as Captain. I can get being mad over losing the original Captain, but the new guy seems good from YouTube clips.
He's a hard ass. Perhaps a better example is going from Coach Bombay to New coach in D3.

I was interested in the third season world building. The map changed a lot in that decade. Also the prospect of an underwater war using more advanced technology than what was seen in the pilot episode.
Definitely. Some great world building that I really found interesting.
